TX traing or somewhere close

Post by sparklingfaces on Sun Nov 29, 2009 7:34 pm

Are there any conventions or training session in TX? Houston in particular... I want to learn new techniques and expand my knowledge of face / body painting.

any help would be great

would love to even meet-up with someone local to learn!

Your should contact Sharon Hodges of Your Enchanted Face.
She's in Dallas but pretty much has her finger in what going on in TX.
When Marcela heads to TX she stays with Sharon as do many top talents.
She very involved with the DFW Guild the have regular meetups and classes.

I am from Houston too! Maybe we can get together and jam sometime. Pashur is doing a body painting class on the 20th of this month.

How about Gary Cole? He is in TX and they seem to offer free face painting classes. Check the Snaz site.

Metina, Gary offers free classes IF you have a min number of people come to his class AND the sale of Snazaroo product meet or exceed a set min. So he will go anywhere to teach his free classes. I understand that he does teach fp to people who work for him, but they are then to paint only for him and he pays them as employees.

His business practice is growing around the country and you hear a lot of people 'teaching assistants' to work for them.

Texas grows some great facepainters....There are a lot of great painters from that area.

For anyone who have been to lafete - can you tell me the average cost of your total trip without "impulse buys"?

hey sparklingfaces,

I'm trying to put together a Jam in Houston, hopefully around August when it's not to busy for everyone. At least we can network and learn from each other. I'll give u more info after I get everything straightened out..............

It usually costs about $400-$600 for the hotel if you stay for the whole event at the hotel where the convention is held (there are cheaper hotels a few blocks away. Since I am a vendor there, bring desserts for the event, and my fiance helps out with the event, I kinda HAVE to stay there.....but there are nice hotels for less money nearby).
The event costs another $125 for the whole event or $40 per day.
And if there are any pre-classes going on, you would have to pay extra for those.
The only other costs would be for any "outside" dining or shopping you would like to do and any money you might plan to spend in the vendor room.

smoothdansa - Count me in! just let me know when and where!

Modernmagik - I've never been there so do you know if the other hotels are within walking distance? I would hate to have to pay $25 every time I leave and come back... and $79 per night doesn't really sound that bad - I'm just worried how much extra they might charge if there are two people in a room. Will have to call if work gives me the time off

I think they are within walking distance (provided your kit is not too large to carry), and have larger rooms for less.....plus there are always people running here and there in their cars, so you might be able to catch rides back.
Where is the $79 per night rate?......Duh, never mind....just looked it up. It has been $99 per night in the past, so I was confused. It's the valet rates that get you though.
