Greetings from Minnesota!

Post by PrairiePainter on Fri Mar 15, 2013 9:48 pm

Well I've been lurking here for a week or so, poking my head into a thread here and there to drop a line, so it's about time I introduced myself. My name is Kristin and like a few of you I'm very new to face painting. I work a retail job three days a week and my husband is self employed. We've got the world's cutest two-year-old (sorry, it's true) and a dog and cat.

I have my first... ahem... "gig" tomorrow. I say gig but it was really just me offering up a fun event for our local St. Paddy's Parade in order to drum up some money for a playground fund raiser. Thanks to the vast wealth of experience represented here I found a desire for this art that I hadn't suspected. I expected to go into this thing tomorrow with a small Snazaroo palette and a few cheek designs and here I am $150 poorer, very excited, very nervous and with a desire to turn all of it into something much more fruitful.

Thank you all for your generosity, it's just mind blowing how much there is to learn! Looking forward to getting to know you!

- Kristin

You will be warmly welcomed there, too!

Thanks for the warm welcome! St. Paddy's (we had our town parade yesterday) went great! I think I painted a little over 20 people and was surprised to get mostly adults. But then again it was REALLY cold out so it wasn't really a surprise. People had a lot of fun with it and kinda gushed about how great it looked! I, of course, know how much I have yet to learn, i.e. A LOT! The best part was the special needs girl that came to my table... She was so excited! That was the biggest challenge with her... She was so enthusiastic she kept reaching across my supplies to point to the fun colors! And she made a really cute leprechaun!

Welcome Kristin! I'm from Minnesota too. Are you in the Maple Lake area by any chance? (I face painted some of the royalty on a float for the Maple Lake St. Patrick's Day parade several years ago.)

That would be the boonies! Did you get much snow today? We didn't get as much as predicted (and for this I am very thankful!) but is sure is blowing around.

Im not sure how much snow we have but the wind is awful! The sun is shining to beat h*** and it's pretty much a whiteout out there. I was on my way to work this morning and i came up to a huge drift on the road and decided to turn around. So sick of winter!

Welcome from one Minnesotan to another! Glad to have you here! I live on the western suburbs but not quite THAT far west! Glad to hear your gig went well...I think that even after 17 years in this business, I learn something new and experience something new at just about every gig! Keep painting and visiting us here on the forum!
