Jumping on the train

Post by princess of mae on Sun Mar 24, 2013 8:42 am

Hello I am 30 years old. I have one daughter. I live in Indiana. southern Indiana, near Evansville if that helps. I just volunteered at a church social and realized I was pretty good. I am a beginner but I love it <3 My daughter is 3 going to be 4 and the perfect age for face painting. I have volunteered at a work event and practiced on here and her cousin who is the same age only a few times.

How do I advertise in a small community!?!?

Dear princess of mae:
Take pictures of your work.
Make business cards and hand them out at every opportunity.
Create a website using photographs of your own work. (Do not use other's photographs of their work to advertise your own work.) Wix.com and Weebly.com are two free web hosts.
Paint your face and walk around while running errands, grocery shopping, etc. Hand out business cards. I painted my whole family with UV paints and we went UV bowling. (The bowling alley wanted to hire me... for $25/hour. I said, "No, thank you". I got a few family parties by drawing others' attention to my painting skills rather than my bowling skills.)
Meet up with other face painters in your area to jam with, to share shipping costs of paint orders, to try out other paints. If each of you order different colors and swap half of them with each other, you will each have twice as many colors for the price of one.
Practice on your daughter, yourself, friends, family. While there are practice heads available, I still go back to practicing designs on my arms and thighs. The Fun Foam you can buy at craft stores makes a great surface to practice on that is easily washable.
Drop your business cards off at every community board at coffee shops, Mom & Me classes, yoga classes, day cares, grocery stores.
Practice line work.
Practice teardrops from big to small, from small to big, from left to right, from right to left.
Practice swirls.
Practice blending.
Watch the freshly painted child look in the mirror at their transformation. You created MAGIC!
And, practice.

Happy Painting!
