Pictures of my work

Post by Goolie on Tue Dec 01, 2009 3:48 pm

I will be doing my first "gig" this weekend and would like to be able to take pics and use them in a portfolio. I am sure this subject has been talked about before but I want to make sure I am not getting into any trouble. I plan to ask the parents permission to take pictures of thier kids for future use. Do I need to get this in writing? I plan to tell them that the kids will not be identified by name or where they live but since I am just starting out I don't really have all the "legallities" worked out. For example, if I take a few pics of the kids will I get into trouble for posting them here so I can get some constructive comments?

Getting it in writing would be good just to cover you. I am sure others will have a consent form you could use.

A lawyery friend explained ot to me once and it's a little complicated to me, but best to use a model release just in case. You never know when you'll want to use a pic for advertising purposes.
Shannon has one on her free resources page... Now, where could she be?

Get a model released signed by the parent. Even if it is your work, the face belongs to the individual. You do not have a legal right to use someone elses face without their written permission.
