Starblend Applicators?

Post by SmileLines on Wed Mar 27, 2013 6:37 pm

Hi All!
I have recently bought a few colors of Starblends (White, Red, and Black) mostly for Tiger eyes and for Spiderman. I bought a few smoothie blenders (one for each color), however I don't really feel comfortable using the same applicator for different faces. Is there a way to clean the smoothie blenders between kids (without getting them wet), or is there a cheap way to apply the Starblends? I would love to be able to apply it with a sponge so I may use one per kid and wash it later, but I'm just not sure... Any ideas would be helpful! Very Happy

Dear SmileLines:
I have about 50 Lollipop Smoothy Blenders. I throw them in the lingerie bag with the sponges and I wash them in the washing machine and dry them in the dryer. Yes, the ones used for black come out grey. I used to use Purity Soap from Reef Botanicals to wash my Smoothies (I am out of the soap) and they came out pretty clean looking.
I try to order another 10 Smoothy Blenders with every order of face paint in anticipation of another busy summer.
Happy Painting!
xoxo

In a pinch I have used some of my face painting sponges, like the ones from Snazaroo. I have them cut into 1/4's or 1/6's. I also use them with my pressed mica powders. I did recently buy a bunch of the lollipop's though and think that a bilk purchase of them is really the way to go, esp if you want to blend on the fly.

Thanks all!
I didn't realize that the lollipop swabs were machine washable (and relatively cheap!). I have the smoothie blenders from Silly Farm and they are a pain to wash! How long do they usually last before you toss them?

Also, Misha, Thank you so much for the advice. It's good to know that in a pinch the regular sponges will work with the powders!

Dear SmileLines:
I have one Lollipop Smoothy Blender that has the same mark and I believe it has lasted for one and a half years, and it was washed in the washing machine every day for 18 days last summer. Other ones only last a few times before they look raggedy and I toss them.
I am emotionally attached to my brushes, and I have a hard time tossing them.
I am not attached the same way to the Lollipop Smoothy Blenders.
Except for that one with the mark.
I have named it "Chucky".

Fesspainter..............sooooo funny!!! I am not sure if its me but all the smoothie blenders I have had come apart at the tips and I get plastic poking thru....I like the white lollipop ones..and havent had any issues yet...I did find last summer at a store called "Dollar Queen" run by Mr Patel...He had these smoothie blenders knock offs (make up applicators with pink sponges just like a smoothie) not only rounded but also a diamond shape...since I said I would buy his whole stock how much (he bargains like the markets of Marrakech) I got I think 15 or 18 for like 8.00 they are excellent and washed many times and no break thru!!.

I have a lot of sponge applicators that Wolfe put into their Halloween Novelty kits, has anybody found a use for them/interested? I don't use Starblends...just isn't something I need or got hooked on...

I like lollipops and powder puffs, the powder puffs I use when I am doing larger areas, and I have a bunch of them from theater productions, so I wash them, but mostly it is lollipops for face painting, I just toss both in the wash with sponges.

I picked up a bunch when Denise Cold did a Co-op on the starblend facebook group. We got them through a medical supply company. I love having a huge supply of them. I use one per kid and toss them in a bag to be washed when I get home. I enjoy those a lot more than the smoothie blenders I had been using.

so the latex wedges for oil foundation makeup will give coverage?
do you need to trim the sponges first?

I've gone to using powder puffs for most of my starblend application. Like these:

There's pretty cheap, so you could load up on them.
