hugs, advice, prayers

Post by Krissiemarie on Fri Apr 19, 2013 7:23 pm

My father's health took a turn for the worse, he's now on a ventilator. I'm so scared. Is it ok to want to be numb? to drink till i pass out to forget whats going on?

It's normal to want to be numb. If doesn't mean you aren't feeling anything. It's a sign that you ARE feeling, a LOT, and that this is just wearing you down. Which is normal, normal, normal. Lots of prayers to you, and hang in there, hour by hour.

So sorry to hear this. Yes, in my opinion it's OK to want to be numb and let the reality SLOWLY sink in. Just be careful how you numb yourself, you don't want to add problems to your life. Make an appt. with a grief counselor or join a group if you can. Hope you feel better

Oh Krissie that is really awful! I feel for you and your Family, it is a hard time, and it's not that weird you feel like that. But don't make it a habit, we'd rather see you spill your gut with us and feel the comfort we all want to give you! Know you can always share your feelings with us and we will be here praying for and with you for your dad!!!

Re: hugs, advice, prayers

Post by Krissiemarie on Mon Apr 22, 2013 1:34 am

today my brothers were on their way up here to see dad one last time, say their good byes and it was raining in florida where they were driving through. they lost control of the car, and flipped many times. it's a miracle they are alive, and only have a scratch. but my brothers dog, who was in the car got out, and walked 15 feet away. and a car hit him. going who knows how fast on the turnpike. I may of been annoyed with the dog, he was fat, and funny looking and annoying, but he was my fat, funny looking, and annoying nephew dog. I don't need another loss,...

Thinking of you, Krissiemarie and sending you some warm thoughts during this extremely trying time.
JJJJJ was correct about wanting to be numb during your family hardship. It is that you are feeling so much, so many mixed emotions, it is too much for your sensibilities. Take care of yourself. This is the last thing you may feel like doing. I understand wanting to be numb. If I could reach back in time to my much younger self, I would tell myself to take a walk in nature, instead of drinking to be numb. The problem for me was that the numbing was for such a short time, and the feelings flooded back multiplied many times, which made me want to be numb, and, well, you know the cycle.
Do what you have to. Take care of yourself and your family with love.
Thinking of you (while actually talking to my younger self).

I lost my father in a difficult was in 2009 so I feel your pain.
if you need someone to talk to contact your local religious leader or see a therapist. I still am dealing with some PTSD.

While being numb sounds like the best idea at the time, you need to make sure you are taking care of yourself. Is there anything else you can do before drinking to feel release? Music always helps me--listening to it and getting lost in it. Any craft besides painting? I know you might not have a desire to do any thing right now, but stick to a schedule, seek out the things that use to/ still bring you joy and enjoy the moments.

I am also SO sorry to hear about your brothers and the dog! I feel the same way about our own dog--not a big fan, but would be very sad if something happened to it!

prayers and good energy to you and your family.

Krissiemarie,

There is no deeper pain then loosing a family member. i wish like Lisa wrote there would be any way or any words i could do or say to take your pain away and give you peace.
I will keep praying for your father, and you. I don't believe life ends here, you will see your father again in a different life.
