Need to paint cuts and bruises!

Post by Kira The Cat on Mon Apr 22, 2013 2:13 pm

I really want to learn how to paint cuts and bruises without having to buy any extra products for this project. I have a whole bunch of colors in Diamond FX, is there a way I can get a good "beat up" look with just my face paints?

Please let me know!

yes you can,, but you need a stipple sponge, you can get it at party city back where they have the halloween make up. its black and kinda scratchy but makes great scrapes..here is a pic done with just paint
here is a link to the type of sponge...you put black and red, mix and drag on your skin..but don't put to much you want it kin of dry

Which brand of bruise wheel would you recommend?

You can use regular face paint if you don't want to buy a bruise wheel (which is oil based make-up.)

The wheels are just handy as they have all the colours of bruises as they age. I like Ben Nye's bruise wheels myself, but all the major theatrical make-up companies have their own.

Rake brushes work well for scrapes too. Kammy had some great gore in this thread: http://www.facepaintforum.com/t13771-my-very-first-gore?highlight=gore

Here's a photo (NOT MY WORK) of a bruise done with Starblends by Peta Rogers:

If you can stomach it, looking at photos for inspiration and color choices is a good idea. Smile I personally like super light red starblend with black/red paint over the top looks cool. Do that for pirates.

Getting around to gelatine, will be playing with that soon - we are figuring out, what to go with for halloween right now. and have a few other things to try.

looks like my link to the stipple sponge didn't come thru...you put red and black on it but make sure not to use to much black..test it on your arm first and just drag it across what ever you want to look like a scrape.

I know you said you don't really want to buy any extra products but I really would recommend the Ben Nye Bruise Wheel, it works wonders and is almost effortless! As an SFX artist as well it is so important in my kit, you can also use it to create small scratches too.
