Hey from Australia

Post by jaynev82 on Wed Apr 24, 2013 5:00 am

Hi All,
I am a newbie, from Brisbane, Qld Australia. Just developing a slight passion for face painting! Another school mum and I are manning the face paint stand at my son's school fete, so looking for inspiration so we can make the school some money!

Dear jaynev82:
I am allergic to Derivan. If I am sensitive, then others may break out in blisters, too.
TAG is a paint distributed in Australia. I love Wolfe White and Wolfe Black for linework. Snazaroo is great for base work. Diamond F/X also sells small palettes, I just do not know the availability and brands of paint in Australia.
There are quite a few Australian painters on this Forum. It may be wise for you to PM them and ask them questions.
I asked which paints you are using because I see school fairs and fetes using Derivan or acrylic paints. Acrylics are not safe to use on a child or near mucous membranes.
Happy Painting!

Hi Aussie! Over here in Perth WA, some Red Dot store offer a brand called Mont Marte. Very similar to TAG. Dervian is at the bottom on the ladder as far as paints go. Can't get even coverage and take forever to dry. Not what you want if you are painting at a school with lots of children waiting, it needs to go on fast, dry fast and feel good. Many Derivan users have told me that if feels terrible on and can flake and crack if on too thick. Check out how to make a rainbow cake (You Tube) and make a few, they will speed up your painting, look great and give that WOW factor.
