how do you apply your glitter?

Post by iowahenna on Tue May 14, 2013 5:21 pm

I have been wondering how others apply their glitter to the glue... do you use brushes? poof bootle? both? so far i like the brushes cause then i can get the colors where i want too and seem to use less glitter this way... never have tried poof bottles mostly cause they look so hard to get glitter into them LOL! what are your expeirences?

I love the Glitter Wand from the Face Paint Forum Shop. It is like a tiny silicone spatula that I can load a tiny shovelful of glitter, and direct the glitter exactly where I want.
I also like the poofer bottles, I just do not have enough bottles for every color.
Brushes are great, too.
The Glitter Wands are my favorite, though.

Happy Glittering!

I use both poofers and brushes. With poofers, you have to only glue the part you want that particular color on, then go on. I like the brushes too, but the open pots are dangerous outside if its windy. All in all, I prefer the poofers. Hope you find your "happy glitter place" Razz

With a lot of mess... I use a brush but I don't offer glitter tattoos yet, I've been practising freehand glitter tattoos on myself. I can't work out how to offer them without taking forever to dry... Any ideas?

i only do freehand glitter... and use a small powerful handfan to help dry the glue faster... i saw it in a youtube video but they were using stencils... either way it made the glue dry fast and quick...

Im curious.. I am still relatively new here in the face painting world. But when you all offer glitter tats along with face painting at an event.. do you just simply switch back and forth.. painting faces.. applying tats?

Thanks Smile)

Dear Kelliesean:
There may be much more versatile painters and glitter tattoo artists here on this Forum who can do both face painting and glitter tattoos.
I cannot do both.
There would be too much to carry and not enough surface area to hold both paint and glitter tattoo materials.
For me... it is one or the other.

If I do tatts it's usually as an add-on for $35.00 per hour with an assistant and then I pay the assistant $20 per hour and keep the rest for supplies. It's mostly perceived value, versatility and ability to keep the client from seeking out other suppliers...I don't make money from it, just enough to replenish supplies.

The two times I've done it myself, I'll do the glitter tattoos and then pack it up and start face painting.

I almost always offer both at festivals. I do switch back and forth, keeping the supplies separate and on either side of me (face painting stuff on the right, of course, because I'm right-handed and that's essential). I keep the glitters in a special case, and the tattoos in a catalogued case. So I just pull out the stencil on the left side of me, and keep the glitters on a small table to my left as well. The kid, of course, is still in the middle. Very Happy I'm not crazy about the "glitter finger" I develop, but it doesn't really interfere with painting.

When I do birthday parties with both options, it's usually only when the number of kids is small enough to allow me to spend the first hour on the painting and the second on the tattoos, as I go solo.

Also, offering both services at festivals has saved me a number of times. There are days when, for no reason I can ascertain, the number of tattoos ordered greatly outnumbers the number of faces painted. And late at night, a lot of parents prefer paying for the tattoos instead of a face painting that'll be washed away in an hour. So I find the glitter tattoo kit investment was a huge payoff for me.

Speaking of glitter, doesn't Nye (or someone) make colored paint(s) with glitter in them? Not the Lumiere Grande Color. I have Silver and Aztec Gold, but they seem more metallic shimmery than sparkly glittery, to me. But there must be sparkly glitter paint?

I found one; Ben Nye Aqua Glitter. Thought I remembered it. But I think it is some sort of a clear vehicle with colored glitter in it. Has anyone ever used this?

But again, there must be colored paint with integrated glitter?

The Glitter Wand from the FacePaintForumShop is in stock!
http://www.facepaintforumshop.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=730

As for paint with integrated glitter... I have found that the paint coats the glitter, except in the FAB line of paint as in Glitter Gold, Glitter Glam, etc.

I am dissatisfied with glitter suspended in a liquid or gel medium. I prefer the scatter pattern of loose glitter applied to damp paint. Shannon Fennel has a jaw-dropping, astonishingly beautiful application of Snaz Glitter Gel applied with a palette knife.

Happy Painting!

techniques that work?

Post by StephanieKiDooodle on Fri Oct 18, 2013 1:36 pm

I am new here, and hoping to find some information.

I realize this post is a few months old, but it is dealing with a topic I am struggling with. I want to offer glitter tat's, but have difficulty making them time-efficient and non-messy, as well as sanitary. I find using brushes that the colors end up mixed if I don't keep a separate brush for every color. The stencils only stick to one person and I am not sure I would be comfortable using them on more than one person anyway, for sanitary reasons...and the glue takes as long to dry as it takes for me to paint a regular face-paint.

I know, it's a lot for a first post, but I appreciate your patience with me, and any advice as well.
Thanks.

Got it!

Post by StephanieKiDooodle on Mon Oct 21, 2013 9:56 pm

This was one of the first threads I posted in when I found this board, and I was so frustrated with the glitter tatts. Thanks to the encouragement and education I got here, this past weekend's glitter tatts went very well. The mess I have been so conscious of was not even noticed by the hosts. The time it takes for the glue to dry was taken up by asking questions about the guest's enjoyment of the tattoo, and the colors they liked. It really doesn't take any longer than painting a face, but feels longer because of not being busy with the paint brush. I love this forum and all of the encouragement I have gotten here in just the short time I have been around.
