Body Painting Prep *time sensitive

Post by ladysinaz on Fri May 24, 2013 12:48 pm

If anyone is lurking out there today.
I have 2 body paintings to do tomorrow and i'm having a helluva time trying to find under garments for the girls to wear that will actually take paint.
Everything we've tried so far just sucks the paint right up leaving it.. well blah
Is there a best color of fabric, best kind, mix of fabrics..
We're going with bra's and booty shorts so there is a lot of fabric to be painted.
My first go i used half a pot of paint and it still wasn't enuf :/

Thanks

Dear ladysinaz:
Lycra underwear works best.
When I am at Sears or The Bay, I pick up a few pairs of nude colored Lycra underwear before a body painting job. If I know the size of the model... I pick up a pair in the model's size AND ONE PAIR A SIZE BIGGER. It is better to have undies that are not so tight that they cut in to the model, creating a visible panty line bulge.
There are affordable smooth Lycra sports' bras that are easier to paint upon.
I have had to paint over a model's underwear and she was wearing cotton undies with little bows and ruffles on them. With her permission, i cut off the ruffles and bows, and sprayed with three coats of unscented hairspray. The paint was still sucked into the fabric, just not as much as the first time I made the paint sucking cotton underwear mistake.
I have used dark underwear for designs that were dark to begin with, so I could use less paint. Most of the time, I use the nude color.
Take a cotton rag. Spray a portion of it with a few coats of the unscented hairspray. Try the body paints on it. See what works. Try using a large sponge. Try using a Kabuki brush. (The mistake I made with the Kabuki brush the first time was to be 'economical' with the paint. Just load that sucker up with paint.)

Also, when I competed in April this year in my very first body painting competition... one of the artists had a problem with paint transferring from the inside of the model's arm onto the body design...(do the creases, armpits, bottom, inside of arms and legs LAST), so I loaned her some of my Green Marble SeLR spray. It worked. It could work for fabric.

Good Luck!

Yeah,
well,
I have made a LOT of mistakes.

The first time I was body painting on cotton shmundies...
I was almost POURING the paint on and the underwear was siphoning it up. The model was wearing very wet underwear. The model was a trooper and smiled through the whole thing. Many hours later, at the end of the shoot. She sat down. After she left to go take a shower to wash the paint off, I noticed the wet paint on the chair. I had made her underwear so wet with paint (and the color was still insipid, instead of brilliant) that hours later, she left my wet paint on a chair. Kudos to the model for never complaining.
Thank you for letting me share my mistakes with the Forum.
Going back to my box now.

Luckily my models are friend of mine so it's not so bad.. we're trial and erroring together Smile
We even tried covering her nipples and having here wear a tube tube made of panty hose.. that didn't fair too much better. It was black tho

Walmart has nipple covers. They are in the bra section with the extra bra straps.
You can cover the nipples with medical tape, or cut a baby wipe in a circle, and cut it half way through. Overlap the cut ends and attach with Prosaide or latex.

When you put a circle of the nipple cover over a woman's nipples, if you align the bottom of the areola with the bottom of the nipple cover, instead of centering the nipple cover, the breasts appear perkier (by half an inch).

Looks like they already answered. Same for me = lycra thongs without trim. I buy them when on sale (Zellers was my best source.) Have a drawer full of all sizes. I ask the models what size, and then give them the next up! I let them keep them afterwards! LOL

I wish I could give a straight answer regarding fluffing up breasts to make them appear perky.
I suppose I could paint nipples higher up on my breasts, with cast shadows to appear 3D. I think it would look kinda weird to have four nipples. The biggest problem here is that nobody would see it, except my husband... and he would probably ask me "Why?" and I would have no answer. Well, no reasonable answer.

What do you charge for a body painting session. A lady emailed me today for a quote to paint full body of a tiger. Thanks for your answers. The above comments helped a lot. This will be my first full body painting.
