Ursula colors

Post by earthorange on Wed Jun 05, 2013 12:01 am

I've been hired to paint a 5th grader as Ursula for a school production of the little mermaid. I'm really excited...the mom tells me the principal, who is also the director, takes her productions really seriously and the costumes are amazing. She says they bought a wig for her, and some of her tentacles will be played by other children...

I am trying to figure out the right shade of lavender for her face. Any suggestions? I have quite a bit of tag but I've really been enjoying paradise lately. It should be comfortable on the skin, since I'm covering her whole face. Also, should I use a kind of barrier spray or is there another option? I can't imagine the lights are too intense in a school auditorium but you never know.

Thanks!

I did little mermaid faces for Ursula and Sebastian last summer. I took a little creative license with the characters. The model was really pale, so I painted her face with a soft white powder base, I painted her lips red and lined them black. Then I painted these tentacles around both eyes. I'm so much better now then I was back then but this is the design I worked from. This was not the actress, this is me, I am far from pale!!!! Have fun!

Whatever the color is in the above picture that is in the middle-the darker purple, would be the "true" Ursula color IMO. The highlight colors used above I think are pretty spot on, so I'd ask her the colors and just get those!

I used tag dolphin, Ursula is a mix of like purple and grey. Please post your picture when you decided on the design, I'd love to see it.

Julie-You should find out if there are real stage lights being used and during dress rehearsal you should be able to test out makeup to make sure it reads from the back of the audience. Using just eyeshadow may not be enough. My middle school productions were HUGE, so we would have needed actual stage or face paint in order for it to read across the whole audience, plus there were regular stage lights AND spotlights that were used.
