Hello again!

Post by JBM on Fri Jul 05, 2013 2:26 am

Hi.
I used to come here all the time, but the last couple of years have been full on and I stopped checking in! At a cross road in my painting career - time to give up or get into it and start doing some new different and amazing stuff. I moved just over a year ago and I am really struggling to compete with the $35 an hour painters! Sooo most of my paints have nearly run out... am wondering if I will restock or let it all go... I've stopped face painting at festivals as henna is my first passion and I can make more money doing that, but I still love doing bellies and bodies... so yeah, here to get re-inspired!

Dear JBM:
I have noticed your absence, and I am glad you are checking back in.
Face and Body painting is an expensive hobby. It is hard to make a living at it. It is a full time job to GET jobs. I "lose out" to the $35/hour face painters all the time.
I also get last minute calls, when I am already booked, because the $35/hour "face painter is here, and she is TERRIBLE".
You are an amazing artist. You do not need to compete with the lower priced painters. If you run low on paint, and you get a job, you can always refill your kit with smaller appetizer palettes, until the market begins to realize what a treasure they have in your area.
