Ok up and running

Post by A New Face on Sat Jul 13, 2013 1:15 am

I have decided to focus on face painting alone and give up being a nurse. I will keep up all licensure but I am on a creative journey. My husband is along for the ride and relative instability is expected..... Year 1 is a go wish me luck... all advice welcome!

I am very excited for your creative journey! I do agree with Maxellbia though, a nurse is a great career and I think it will be difficult to make the same amount right away. So if you're the primary source of income keep it on the side Smile

I have been a nurse for going on 9 years and I do love it there are very many things I will miss but physically and emotionally I need a break. I think I will keep a PRN option open but... I have saved up and thing if I can get a good foothold perhaps this will work... I have one year to make a dent in a dream lol!

Re: Ok up and running

I'm doing relatively the same thing come September. I'm cutting back 60% on my income as a health professional, and using the time to really REALLY build my face painting business. I'm 50, so the hunger to really work at something that is in more alignment with who I really am is very strong. With your energy at 31, you have a great head start on this. My advice: stay very focused on it, and somewhat relaxed at the same time. Meaning, prepare to work hard, especially at all the groundwork of running a business (the non-face-painting part that will be the foundation of the face painting career), and, take some of the inevitable disappointments in stride. They will occur, but my perspective from a few decades on has taught me that each thing that happens, bad and good, is not the singular defining moment of anything in your life. It's a paragraph in a chapter in a long book that you have partial control in writing. Go for it. Go for it wholeheartedly. And if at any point money becomes an issue and the scenario needs to be reevaluated, remember, that's just a present reality and you do what you need to do to keep yourself fueled. And it's not a "dent in a dream" you're making. It's the first steps INTO that dream, okay!

I'm rooting for you!

JJJJJ... perfect speech!

I am just starting out. Got determined 2 months ago. Now I'm seeing the product of my determination. However like someone posted in another forum... "Don't expect to make substantial difference the first year, maybe two."

It will happen with the hard work, determination and patience. Don't give up! We are in this together here and will always be here for the ups and downs and to just chat :-D

Sending you my best!

Thank you so much... I think the relative instability at first is what has me most on edge but I have a busy calendar and lots of hope and faith. Plus I love to paint so much...

You can do it Nikki! You are so talented. I started pushing about a year ago and my business has started to blossom. There is plenty of work here I think and by this time next year your business will be booming. Its a great liberating feeling.

I wish you all the luck in the world!!! Last year, when my main business went way down because of the economy, I was forced to really push and take this from a once in a while job to supporting me way more. The results are starting to pay off. I think the real key is to get a few steady gigs on weekdays also, as you can only do so many parties on a weekend! Keep us updated on your progress towards your goal!
