getting the right paint consistency

Post by lorikenh on Mon Jul 15, 2013 7:44 pm

Hi, I'm fairly new to face painting. I did a 3 day event, and had a lot of trouble getting the right consistency of paint. It was hot (in California), I kept rewetting the paint, but it became "pudding like". Does anyone has any advice???

I'm also in California! Where abouts are you?

I'm going to follow this. All my gigs so far have been inside.

For linework, i make a little well in the middle of the paint and just wet the brush and kinda swirl it in the well. I find it easier to get perfect consistency when it's real hot if my little well reaches the plastic bottom. When I twirl my brush I am not picking up any more paint tht way or making it goopy

For sponging I haven't had that problem.

What paint are you using? I find brands sometimes make a difference for me on how much water I use, how quick it dries out, etc. Just keep at it...the more you paint, the better you'll understand. Metina's idea of "dippy pots" has helped some (like me) with regular consistencies for black & white, for line work.
