How do I achieve complete gold that lasts all night?!

Post by katiepaintface on Sun Oct 06, 2013 5:41 pm

It's my friends 30th in 2 weeks and she's asked me to paint her face, neck, chest and arms completely gold and wants it to stay on all night, anyone have any idea with what products and method I might achieve this?! I don't have an airbrush....

Mehron metal powder and mixing liquid might be your best bet...but if she's eating, drinking and partying she might be being a tad optimistic to think it's going to look perfect all night.

Superstar/FAB gold is beautiful too, but presents a similar problem - once she eats and drinks, it'll be messy around her mouth at the very least. Let us know what you end up using and how it goes? :-)

You're very kind, jlirie, to make me feel better about being....y'know....an eejit.  I blame the fact that I couldn't sleep last night...  Wink  Thank you!

P.S.  To add another bit to the very late opinion I sent:  metal powder tastes horrible, too, so if it gets used around the mouth while the model's eating/drinking it's not great, IMHO.  Strangely enough, it tastes....metallic.  I know.  Shocker, eh?  alien

that reminds me, i got the mehron bronze metallic powder, haven't tried it yet. is it in fact powdered bronze metal? the mehron website description and msds lists it as such, in combination with other metallic powders (there may be a "duh!" here, lol). any issues using it on the face such as near eyes or mouth due to particle size (i.e. scratching)?

I'd thought about suggesting Endura....but yeah, might be great fun on the eyes, lips and everything else at cleanup time, especially if the birthday girl's had a few too many drinks.  Twisted Evil

This is only in my limited experience, but I haven't heard of any problems with the powder being used near eyes.  Marcela Murad has a class on FABATV where she uses the silver powder dry for a "tin man" face paint.  What I HAVE read is that the mixing liquid isn't great for close to the eyes, as it can be a little tougher on the skin than our usual water-based makeup products.  Someone with rather more experience in Mehron powders than me will probably be able to advise more expertly!

thanks, kammy, i'm probably being overly cautious., i will play around with it and see how it works., probably just use common sense in keeping any powder from actually getting in eyes.

If I was going to do this I'd use Endura, or one of the similar products (Really I'd use temptu since the smell of endura makes me gag.) and then Vibe on the face and any commercial gold eye shadow on the eyes.
