GEt THIS one....

Post by TinafromNY on Sun Oct 06, 2013 7:56 pm

A Realty co, who makes condos, booked an Open House for today. It was supposed to be in Sept, then she changed it to today. She kept going back and forth and hadn't sent in her deposit yet, even though I had turned down other gigs. Wed she calls and says she finally got the OK, where should I send the deposit? Now, I don't do contracts but I do have to have deposits. I had checked this place out beforehand and it seemed fine. So, at that late date unfortunately I said, just give me the full amount when I come Sunday. Also, originally it was supposed to be a two hr. party, but she said "I can stay till 4 , the end, turning it into a 3 hr gig, if I wanted to, so that was my plan. The mileage was 24 miles round trip more than my iimit for free. But I decided to not even mention the 24 miles since I got the extra hr and thought maybe I could get more open houses, so I didn't want to get too petty.

So she gives me the address, which said "La Grange, NY". It doesn't come up in my GPS, which is name brand and I just got it so it's current. I call from my parking lot and tell her that. She says "Oh, well it may say Poughkeepsie as that's the actual mailing address". So it still doesn't come up and I call her to ask if the small neighborhood (it looked that way on the map) could be called anything else? No she says. So I say OK, I'll have to go back in my house and look it up on mapquest. No she says, I'll give you simple directions and I carefully write them down, confirm them and I start out. So the last leg of the trip she tells me to make a left at a lumber store, which I do, and go 2 1/2 miles, make a right at the light and go another 1 1/2 miles to "Pete Drive" and there'll be signs for her place. So I'm driving all over the freakin place and call her 3x. No road, no signs. Two convenience stores later (one said the neighborhood was actually Pleasantville but THAT didn't come up in the GPS either) and them telling me I'm on the right road but no one knows where they are, I call and say where I am and did I pass it? So she has NO idea all the landmarks I'm telling her. At this point it's over 1/2 hr late. I've already driven 53 miles in the rain!!!!!

Guess what she tells me ? She says "Well, I have no idea where you are, and no one's really coming to the Open House, so why don't you just go home and we'll send you the $50. deposit (yeah right) for your trouble". I say "I'm driving a 108 mile round trip and following the directions YOU gave me, even the stores are telling me I'm on the right road. I don't really think that's fair. This trip is taking 3 1/2 hrs. round trip, with your directions". She says "Sorry, we'll send you the $50."

So I go home furious and check Mapquest. She was right up until the lumber yard, then it said 0.8 miles make a right and go 0.1 miles to the place. Her directions took me 4 miles PAST her place and I KNOW I wrote them right.

Can you believe this? I mean, like my contracter friend said "A contract is only as good as the person that signs it anyway", but I'll NEVER do a party again unless they send the deposit in plenty of time to cash and keep it. He doesn't even think they're going to send me the $50., neither do I. And we both said, no wonder no one came to the open house, with THOSE directions. PS, she actually told me that some guy the day before ended up in another COUNTY trying to find them!!!!!!!

Yep, everyone learns this the hard way. But at least we only need to do it once! No

I wrote her a letter, explaining the differences between HER directions and the mapquest, etc. and asked her to reconsider paying me the full amount, since I was "responsible and dependable" except for HER directions.  Got a kind of snotty letter back, saying they wrote a $50. check deposit check and I should be happy with that, since it was MY own fault that I couldn't find it.  Of course, in her letter she tried to tell me that I was the one who got the directions wrong (uh..no..I confirmed them) and NOW she says "EVERYONE finds them by GPS", even tho before she told me no one can ever find it in their GPS's.  Then, all those calls (3) I had to make to her when the directions were wrong?  She tells me that she's a "saleswoman" and didn't appreciate that "I kept calling her while she was showing people the condo".  She told me she was being "pretty generous considering I was a no-show".  Idiot.  Well, I learned a REAL good lesson.
