It was a very good day. Married 45 years ago today to my best friend, we enjoyed our family, did fun things together during the day & spent a quiet evening at home. Taking it easy.

Today should be the day I find out if the specialist accepted my case in Ohio.Yesterday, my local cardiologist scheduled me for a type of cardiac scan where they inject dye & can actually measure the valves & blood vessels of the heart, in case I need to have surgery locally. My husband asked if we could wait until January & he said he not a good idea. Kammy finds out her treatment plan today, too, I think. Such a Tuesday we're having!

Update:decision to make. The Dr @ Cleveland Clinic can perform the surgery Dec 19th or Jan 16th. Only advantage to Dec is " get it done". On the negative side...
The surgeon would leave on vaca the next day, my husband would be alone & God forbid it goes wrong( I KNOW, I'm going to be OK, just covering all angles) my family would remember it each Christmas. 4 of my 5 grand kids just lost their other grandmother in May. None of this would apply if I wait till January. Waiting for a call back from my cardiologist. Maybe God's pointing me towards Jan?

Oh phew, that's a hard decision to make....
I would take the doctors advice, does he want you to take the op as soon as possible? Then december!
Can it wait until january with no risks? Wait if you feel better about that!

Re: A New Journey...of the heart

Post by Affordable Face Magic on Sun Dec 01, 2013 7:35 am

Woke up early w/heart pounding. Palpitations are expected symptoms, but now, instead of an RN, I'm the patient...just a little nervous. My son-in-law, Daniel...here w/us from Atlanta w/my daughter & grandson, spent hours on the phone & internet yesterday doing a GREAT job. Our plane tickets are switched from Boston to Cleveland & we're booked into a hotel 3 miles from the hospital...breakfast included! I actually suggested we fly from Orlando, a 2 HR drive away instead of locally. It was over $500 cheaper/person!!! We need to travel on the 15th of Dec to be there for testing on the 16th & meetings on the 17th. Surgery will be on the 19th. My poor husband will be sitting in that waiting room by himself. I think Shannon had to do that when Michael had his heart surgery. It's going to be a very different Christmas this year. Our grandchildren, ages 6-11, have been asking such sweet questions re: this. "...but who will be Santa Christmas Eve?" (They've grown up knowing Grampa is Santa's helper, who comes to our annual open house after church each Dec 24th). "...but we HAVE to have Nana. She puts the fun in Christmas!" They hang their stockings at my house & return the next day after opening their gifts...in PJ's. I never insisted on this. Their parents love to celebrate all together, ( & LOVE my husband's annual prime rib dinner!!!).
Time to get ready for church. Jordan, age 10, is Acolyte today. He's a little nervous, since he hasn't done it for awhile. I was raised Catholic in South Boston, but have been a Lutheran for most of my adult life. Daniel is Jewish, so my 11 yr old grandson also celebrates Hanukkah...8 days of presents AND Christmas???? That kid loves this time of year!
Thanks for being here, my friends. Peace.

Christmas sounds like so much fun at your house!!
What a great gift, to hear the children and grandchildren say: you put the fun in Christmas!
That shows so much love!!

You're going through all of this, to try and be sure that many more christmasses will follow!
Do nothing isn't an option.
Hope Jordan enjoyed being Acolite today and your story about Daniel just made me grinn!

Lots of hugs!!

Huge packet arrived from Cleveland Clinic...appointment w/my Florida cardiologist tomorrow & my dentist on Thursday...need his clean "bill of oral health" before valve surgery...our daughter, Robin gets the keys tomorrow to the house we're moving into together...& our house is still on the market. Everything was moving along, but it still didn't feel right to have my husband all alone, a thousand miles away from anyone he knows, while sitting in that waiting room. I've put it in God's hands & just stopped fretting about it. Today, some of my family called from New England. They're coming to visit in January to "give me something to look forward to". Then tonight, my niece Betty called. She booked her flight to Ohio. She'll arrive the day before surgery, stay at the same hotel, play scrabble & cribbage in that waiting room w/Walter & fly home on the 21st. I'm so happy!!! Very Happy
BTW, Miss Ronnie, Walter & I were touched by your kind offer. You're such a special person. I don't know what I love more about you: your kindness or your sense of humor.   I love you I love you I love you

SO much going on:
1: major life change...both our youngest daughter (Robin) & fam & my husband & I are selling our homes & moving in together. Our buyers backed out, but we went ahead & rented a house, close to everything & got the keys yesterday.
2- Got the news from my dentist-cavities below 2 very old "caps". Starting work on that today...yikes...need no chance of infection. After valve surgery, there's no major dental work for 6 months to a year!
3- Our oldest daughter (Dawn) is staying w/us & doing our "downsizing" & everything else!!! God Bless her. Since she home schools our grandson...I get frequent "cuddling time" Very Happy
4- This Sunday is our annual "Pictures w/Santa" at our town hall (Walter) & I always face paint. My 2 young helpers will be there to set up & paint, but I'll get to do some of the face painting...one more time...before surgery. YAY!!!!!

Need clean bill of dental health for surgery. SOOOO, one crown, one extraction & more $$$$$ later 😝. On antibiotics, the dentist says it should heal by next week & he'll sign the form I need. You're right Michael...Southie Strong! I supported my jaw so he could pull that tooth. That filling was over 40 tears old (remember when they used silver?) I'm just letting everything happen as it should & rolling w/the punches.

Last visit w/my cardiologist before we leave for Cleveland. He was happy the dentist pulled that tooth. I'm on a strong antibiotic, & was hoping to avoid "dry socket"...but noticed last night that I can see my jawbone!!! Per my cardiologist, I'm taking a probiotic & lots of yogurt. He made a few nice comments about how I'm always laughing & seemed surrounded by love. He laughed out loud when I told him we were selling our house & moving in w/our daughter.
Now, I just wait & pray for it to be OK when I see my dentist tomorrow. Hopefully, he'll be able to sign my dental clearance & off we'll go on Sunday.
Spent last evening w/my family. Today, one "branch" of our family tree leaves for an annual visit to Disney World for the Very Merry Christmas Party. Even though we live only 2 Hrs away, it's so expensive for a family of four, they've only visited one evening a year, but it IS magical. The parade is awesome & the # of people are limited, so you can walk right into every ride.  I get to babysit my 4 legged grandson while their gone. He's an English cream retriever...& I love him to pieces! His calm, gentle manner is a gift right now.
Well, so far, everything has worked out. Either we get clearance & we're off, or it wasn't meant to be & we wait. It is what it is. Meanwhile, off to Kammy's Cafe for my morning cup of coffee!

Dearest Pat,

Well young lady, you've had quite a lot going on. I wish I could make that trip to Cleveland to sit with your hubby - but life is dictating other plans for me.

I had a dry socket once when I had my wisdom teeth pulled..... IT WAS HELLACIOUS PAIN! And what hurt even more was the saline soaked packing they stuffed down into the hole. Please try like hell to avoid this Laughing I have never been afraid of going to the dentist but I nearly hit the ceiling when they removed that packing...I remember I cried like a baby the whole way home (and I was driving!)

Disney....ahhhhhhh..... someday, I'll go again. I haven't been to DisneyWorld since before Epcot was built. Going back is one of my dreams - along with seeing Paris.

Hope you enjoyed your morning coffee in the Cafe! I don't know who's playing in there today... maybe I'll see who is available.
