Where can I find Wolfe Red?

Post by Lavenderchartreuse on Thu Jan 09, 2014 6:10 pm

Hey there fellow painters!

Is anyone else having a hard time getting any Wolfe Red? I've checked my usual source and other sources for the past couple of months with no luck. Does anyone have the inside scoop as to why they are out and when we'll see more on the market?

Thank You!

Dear Lavenderchartreuse:
The last batch of Wolfe Red I purchased is.....
ORANGE!
I am pretty happy with
Paradise Beach Berry (loathe the stink, leave open for 3-6 months before using)
TAG Red
Diamond F/X Red
Kryolan Red
MAC Red
Snazaroo Red (excellent for SpideyGuy base)

After purchasing Wolfe Not Red....
I have tried Kryvaline, Cameleon, and FAB.  They are all acceptable to me...just not as good as the previously mentioned.

I understand there is a new brand of paint coming out soon, made by Gary Cole, formerly of Snazeroo.  This paint brand is called Ruby Red.  I usually order Black, White, and Red in a new brand to try it out.

Happy Painting!

Hi Lisa,

Thank you very much for your advice. I have noticed that the Wolfe red leans towards orange. It doesn't bother me that much and I really like the simplicity of having all my colors in one brand (easy stacking).

So far no one has replied to my question of wondering why everyone is out of the Wolfe red. Maybe no one else actually buys it if its too orange for most people. My usual supplier has been out of it for over two months. If anyone knows of a supplier who has it, in any size (30g,45g,90g), please let me know.

Thanks again!

I've heard that there's been a huge issue with deliveries at Wolfe headquarters over the past months, but that it should be solved soon.
They switched factories or something like that

Dear Lavenderchartreuse:
This last order of Wolfe Red did not just lean toward the orange side. It was seriously orange. Makes a great tiger. I think the transition to a new manufacturing site has had a few blips. I have repotted other colours (except Snazaroo, which eats through some plastics) into Wolfe containers.

I sure hope the Wolfe starts to howl with better white paint again. Otherwise, I will call the color "Won't White." Because I won't.

I hate to correct Fesspenter but the new brand Gary Cole is launching is called "Ruby Red" (after the Texas grapefruit) and the launch date is February 14, 2014.

And the last Wolfe red I bought was also more orange... I hate when a company changes their colours/formulas and pretends they didn't.

I haven't bought any more Wolfe and won't be.

I love it when you point me toward the truth, Shannon Fennell.
Thank you for not letting me make a fool of myself....this time.

Re: Where can I find Wolfe Red?

Actually, when painting yesterday, I realized that my red leans towards dark pink, not orange. So I must not have bought any red recently if everyone is thinking its orangey. I don't remember how long ago I got my red.

I really like that all my paint pots screw into each other and pop into a little case that I have. It makes my kit simple and easy. I suppose I could buy a red from someone else and just replant it into a Wolfe container. Maybe I'll do that. I'll take a closer look at everyone's suggested reds.

I bet the "orangey" red is the reason there is no red currently available. Maybe they're trying to make it more "red" red. Makes sense to me. Thanks for the info on the new factory...that could be the problem too. I suppose I shouldn't wait to make a purchase of someone else's red as it might be a while before I can buy some Wolfe red.

Btw, I am also one who is less happy with Wolfe's white. Its a real bummer. When I want something to really pop, I have to paint it twice now. After reading through the recent threads it seems like there is nothing out there that is any better so I guess I'll stick with the Wolfe white.

Its possible that they aren't changing their formula. Maybe its the fact that some organic or mineral material that they are buying is naturally different. Or maybe they're getting the "same thing" from a different supplier. They can get away with saying they haven't "changed their formula" because that much is true; because the change is integral in the ingredient or because they've switched suppliers who say that the product is identical. The surprising thing is that they say they have asked their sponsored artists if they've noticed a change and the artists supposedly say they haven't. Its hard to believe when all the rest of us have noticed.

I can understand why anyone would want to boycott a product line if they felt they were lying to you. Face painting is my second business (I'm an interior designer), so I try to keep things very simple so its easier to run two businesses. Once I had my kit set up, I decided not to play around with it much. The few times I experimented with other products I wasn't all that impressed and figured I should just stick with what I've got. It makes it easier for me. That said, if an entire line of paint was reported as superior than most others, I'd be open to switching over. Currently I still perceive that Wolfe white and black are best (even with their change in performance), I'm sticking with Wolfe until something better comes out.  Very Happy

If anyone gets around to trying Gary Cole's new line of paint when it comes out, please post your thoughts on it (especially the white and black) so that the rest of us can consider it.

Thanks Again!
