Facebook groups
I started a group on Facebook, even a few of you are fans.
I was wondering if this has been a successful tool for you to market yourself?
Re: Facebook groups
It's hard to say whether it has gotten me new business, but I use it too keep my fans informed about what public events I will be attending so they can find me.
Re: Facebook groups
Sorry, bumping an older topic.
I think facebook is a really good marketing tool!
Aside from people seeing me at events, facebook is where most of my business comes from. Even if people see me at events they usually end up on the facebook page and then decide to book.
I love the way it is so interactive and I have a large group of followers waiting for the next photo. I think because it is so visual it only takes one person to like the page and share it to all of their friends and so forth. People are fascinated by the painted faces can't help them selves to see more.
Its great to let people know about the public events and also a great way to connect with other small businesses in the area.

Re: Facebook groups
I have one & have a good amount of fans. I post photos & my public events, but haven't figured the best way to use it to get gigs or how to get people who I'm working for to become my fans.
Any suggestions on how you've used it would be great!

Re: Facebook groups
If you'd like we could become fans of eachother on Facebook.
My FB page:
http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/group.php?gid=361622190603&ref=ts
I made it before I chose not to be a clown, but don't know how to change the title

Re: Facebook groups
I am very new and I have gotten every gig I have booked (7 between now and x-mas) from Face Book! Between my own personal page and my group. Until I get a website up and running this is my only form of advertising.

Re: Facebook groups
I send messages to my group members now and then with updates on public events where I will be appearing. It isn't so much about new business, but it brings your repeat customers along to your pay per face gigs. I have a little bit of a following already and I LOVE it.
Re: Facebook groups
not at all! Create a group and invite everyone on your friend list, and ask them to invite their friends and so on. It's great!

Re: Facebook groups
Cool, Thanks! I had seen a business page thing & that one cost money, so just didn't know. Thanks again!!
Re: Facebook groups
One thing about a group vs a fan page - you can't get a vanity URL for the group! I created my group before we could even get vanity URL's for our own profiles, and while my website is being constructed (ie sitting there with nothing being done to it), I point everyone to my FB group for photos etc.
A few weeks ago I tried to get a vanity URL for it - and found out groups can't get one, but, if I remember correctly, fan pages CAN. Wish I'd known that before. At this point, I think I'd rather keep my group than try to get everyone to rejoin a page, you know?
(Also, it's been good - I've booked some stuff from it, send messages for free tix to events, and put my calendar up on it.)

Re: Facebook groups
What's a Vanity URL?
I originally got of FB because my kids wanted to go on & I needed to monitor them. I love connecting w/ old friends that I've lost touch w/ over the yrs. Being a traveling Navy family & having a lot of Navy friends, we've lost touch w/ a lot of people.
I'm working on the advertising on there now, but only the free stuff.

Re: Facebook groups
Vanity URL ie instead of having a crazy long URL with random numbers/letters, now you can find my personal page going to www.facebook.com/kristalgyee. I wanted www.facebook.com/faceaballoonza for my group, but no dice.
