Colours for sharp outline work (not black or white)

Post by Saskia D on Sun Apr 20, 2014 5:59 pm

Hi there,
Does anyone know which paint brands work well for doing outlines in colour? I'm thinking maybe a dark plum and a pale yellow. Hopefully without too much staining but if it means no streaks then perhaps I don't mind! Many Thanks Very Happy

FAB Amethyst Shimmer
Paradise Brillante Violine

I used them both today to outline bunnies. Looked great!

Great thanks guys. I'll definitely share some pics after I order. Have recently started painting myself (hard) and am trying to come up with some nice eye designs to wear on jobs. X

So I finally got around to buying the new paints I wanted, ready for my first market on the weekend. The colours I bought for outlines and embelishments are:
Tag Berry Wine
Paradise Violet (might be same as Violine but named differently I'm not sure)
Global colours light yellow
Superstar Dark Green

They worked fab. Thanks for the advice. I'm trying to include some pics but having trouble uploading from a file??

Dear Saskia D:
I am SO glad you found some colours for outlines that are fresher looking than just plain black and white. The Paradise Violine is a dark metallic purple. Is your Paradise Violet a matte finish, or a metallic or pearl finish?

Its a matt finish. I like the sound of metallic purple though, I'll look out for that next time. Here is a link instead (if it works): www.facebook/tigerdragonbutterly.com" alt="" />

Wow that looks like a super colour instead of black as it is so dark. Thanks. I'm loving your tutorials at the moment too Very Happy . It's amazing that a whole industry can be based around the sharing of ideas! It makes for some truly exceptional face painting. I like how every creative artist has a slightly different approach so the ideas just keep evolving.

I know! I think the sharing and challenging each other really elevates the art. Really some beautiful stuff happening.

2nding Wolfe Deep Raspberry (love it!), also Wolfe dark dark green (the new one), Paradise Wild Orchid (better for dry brushing), Wolfe dark brown (puppies), Wolfe metallic dark blue (gorgeous, but can stain), old Wolfe metallic dark purple (freaking amazing, but the new one isn't as pigmented as the old one was)

I don't have pics of when I've used the green, but here are a couple pics of both the Paradise wild orchid and Wolfe deep raspberry.

Oh, and FAB plum is up there, too. It's a little soft for most linework, so less opaque. You can see it on the first butterfly's teardrops. I love the color, but it's not as great for linework as the waxier paints (for me).

Monster horns are homemade one-stroke cake, just a line of black wolfe and a line of white wolfe and applied with a #10 filbert.

I've always made my one-stroke horns mostly white...I love them mostly black with the white as highlight. Thanks Julie. Smile

i need to get that wolf plum or a darker purple. I have tag berry wine, but it's still not dark enough or the right shade for certain things.

Black.

Haha! Couldn't resist.

I think Deep Raspberry is much darker, but I don't have it, so I can't be sure.
