The "Square"

Post by Bonkers on Sat Apr 26, 2014 12:26 pm

Hi, I apologize if this post is in the wrong category.

How many folks use the "square' for payment and what are your reviews of it? I live in Canada and not sure if there are different rules up here for us Canucks lol I've read some terrible and great reviews of it. How long do you typically wait until you get your money? Any glitches? Raves/Rants?

Thanks a bunch! I love you

I don't get why people are so shy about making new threads even if it's been asked before. If the thread is long dead I say make a new one, this is a forum not a library. :p

I'm sure the creators of the forum WANT us to be posting and keeping traffic up. It's better for the site if we post more I think.

Now that said, I've been using it for a while now and have no problems with it other then it's something that slows me down on PPF gigs. Pogueskiss is spot on it works better if you have a helper at those times.

But I also use it after gigs for clients who want to pay with credit card and don't mind the 2.75% fee (which i certainly don't pay myself).

It's good to have the option I feel. and I LOVE how you can pre-program and save things with the app. I have a saved amount for my PPF faces, and for my party and event rates. Tap of a screen and I have a transaction ready for the customer. Smile

I don't see anything wrong with posting new threads, but I think it is even better when they brought up old post that contain a lot information and experiences from people who is not longer in the forum, the most answers the best.

Now I can say I like square, it works as a merchant account and you don't have to pay a monthly fee, I use to accept payments from corporate that can only pay with credit cards.

I got my Square when I first started my business & opened my bank account. After not using it for over a year, I got 2 corporate clients that can only pay w/credit cards. On another thread, we discussed needing a line manager @ a busy PPF event to handle the Square. Otherwise, it isn't workable for long lines…IMHO

I linked back to posts for people because there is a lot of good information on this forum and the search function isn't particularly robust making it difficult to find sometimes. I think it's best to have more information available, not less.

When in doubt, always assume good intentions.

Speaking of which, I know there is a better way of searching, through google, instead of the search, but I can never remember how.
Thanks for listing links, Julie.

I learned the trick for searching from google from Julie, I believe. In the google search box, type: "search site: face paint forum ____" with whatever you want to search for. Works like a charm.

We used the Paypal version for Comic Con and it was fabulous. Gathered over $400 over two days that could have potentially been lost. People were very grateful for it, especially as they got more cash poor. I did have a line manager helping however, but the process itself was quite easy. I'll never do a festival without one again.

One the other topic with this thread... I believe it's ok to start new threads, especially when they involve technology that can change! And even with product changes such as wolf white old versus new. If I were to do search I would have to go through and check dates on everything that was said. The idea of going back to old threads is alarming to me because so many thing may have changed since that thread was started.

It can also seem threatening and unfriendly to just post a handful of links to older post. I have seen major fight on other forums from people doing that. Keeping in the mindset...the thread is already started, just go with it.

Yes, of course it's totally okay to start new threads, I never put it on the table that it wasn't. You're right, some topics are timely, and others are timeless. If one felt threatened by a handful of links, my apologies as it wasn't my intention.

Mental note: increase emoticon coefficient like whoa so as not to scare people.  I love you
