Hello! Newbie from New Brunswick

Post by Other Fish on Mon Jun 09, 2014 9:37 pm

Hi, I am interested doing face painting part time, the occasional birthday party, corporate gig, and some busking at music festivals (hubby is a bassist). I am New Brunswick, Canada. My biggest concern is this insurance business. I don't anticipate making $1000 to spend that much on insurance. Anyone have any links or tips for me?

Welcome.
Sorry, I don't have a clue on Canadian insurance, but maybe the venue could cover it?

Hello Other Fish! And welcome to the Forum!
I was with CAFABA's insurance... and my insurance quadrupled this year, and I have never made a claim. CAFABA's members have never made a claim in eight years that we have had CAFABA's insurance. My fees went from $300 for two face painters and $80 for each team member that works with me, to $751 for me alone....and $751 for each team member. YIKES!!!!

Clowns Canada has coverage for about $200 per year. There is a FaceBook group called The Rise Of The Canadian Face Painter, started by Léah Selley, and there is a HUGE discussion regarding Canadian insurance by Stephanie Hannah.

I hope this helps.

Thank-you. I have been waiting for CAFABA's insurance to give me a quote. I will be checking out Clown Canada. Thank-you for the Facebook link. I was hoping there were some groups online.

There are lotsa FaceBook groups for Face painters.
I prefer this Forum if I actually need some excellent advice. There are too many angry, negative, unhelpful people on FaceBook.

This Forum is paid for by the FacePaintForumShop.com (the colourful rectangle in the column above). The prices are competitive, well packaged, and, shipping is FAST! I have it sent to my relatives in Detroit and I bring it across the border and declare it. Canada Customs and Brokerage fees are bewildering, hit-or-miss, and expensive. CAFABA is offering a $2 membership fee this year, in light of the insurance debacle. You will be kept in the loop for their workshops, and you will be added to their membership list by Province.

Happy Painting!

I think I am going to register with them. I am still waiting to hear back from Statefarm but It looks like Clowns Canada has the best rates. Plus, I could add some performance to my birthday party gigs if I wanted to go that route. I am working on my "costume". I know you don't have to dress up as a clown but it could be fun. I wonder if I could be a clown with a blue nose since I am from Nova Scotia? Or would that be a clown faux pas?
