Lanolin based?

Post by Raka on Thu Jun 26, 2014 6:31 am

Hello! I'm new to face paint and i want to get some white face paint, i think i'm going for the mehron clown white. I saw there was a "lite" version of it that is lanolin based? What is the original one based on? What are the difference between those two?

Thanks in advanced!

Hi! Welcome to face painting. I would not recommend clown white for face painting (neither the regular version nor the lite version). Water based face paints are much easier to work with (and to remove).

Were you planning on using the white for line work or for bases? For line work I'd recommend Wolfe or DFX. For bases I'd recommend TAG or Paradise.

Did you know that the Face Paint Forum Shop sells face paint? Click on the brightly colored rectangle near the top of this page. Prices are competitive and shipping is fast and reasonable.

Here are some links to the whites I mentioned:

Happy shopping!

Thank you so much for the info! I ve seen alot of people going for the clown white, is it cream based or grease paint? Is that why it's hard to apply?
I want it for base work.

Again thanks! i will check the other paints, and no i did not now about the store! cool!!

I am SO allergic to lanolin.
I would not use it on a child's face.

Try the Face Paint Forum Shop for TAG, Diamond F/X, Paradise, Wolfe, Snazaroo.

Yes. Clown white is grease paint.  You add baby oil or similar to it to get the desired creaminess and then apply it.  Finally you set it with powder.  To remove, you need to reactivate with oil then wash away.  It isn't so much that it is "hard" to apply - just that it takes several steps which take longer.  Plus removal is more difficult.

Typically, for face painting, water based products are used.

For base work, try TAG, Paradise or Kryolan white.  They are water activated.

You can also search the forum to find more info on kinds of paint.  Try a search like this from a google window:
site:facepaintforum.com "best white"

My other half is vegan so we have to avoid lanolin (its made from sheep wool) The only one i know that is totally lanolin free is paradise, snazaroo couldn't confirm which colours might or might not have it in.

If anyone else has other suggestions for vegan friendly paints id love to hear them! ^^
