Alicia Key's body paint...

Post by smitty225 on Wed Jan 27, 2010 12:20 pm

Who had the pleasure adding the butterfly to Alicia Key's back for her latest video?

I love her! Here is the video:

Thanks Mike for the heads up on this, I hadnt seen it yet. It looks like Mehron gold powder with the mixing medium, white liquid bling for the 3-D swirls and Paradise body paint.

Here's a shot of the body paint.

Looks like some basic paint and some liquid bling.

I'll be honest.. I'm not a huge fan of it Embarassed

the embellishments are an interesting look, but it seems like a really thrown together look that her makeup artist tossed on her at the last minute... Just sayin..

I love Miss Keys though!

I think he was just wondering who got to paint the lovely Miss Keys... more of a commentary of the canvas and less on the art... tee hee hee.

And I agree... she's got beautiful skin... it's a shame more thought wasn't put into it (but I've only seen this pic... I'm officially old)

I've seen some makeup artists use dimensional fabric paint... I wonder if that's......

Looks to me like glitter gel, beads( or those little metal ball thingies..) and maybe some ribbon or string?! it's really hard to tell...

none of it appears to be glitter gel.....I am pretty sure all of the raised areas are appliques.....looks like they attached silver and diamond jewelry with adhesive....no glitter gel though (gel does not give that much dimension to the skin....although the 4 dolphin shaped little blobs could be gel I suppose....but are probably appliques as well)
The rest looks like makeup and tat ink.

Ah, yes! Appliques would make sense, and those are what they look like now that you mention it..

I think we gotta admit (and I don't like slamming other artists) a lot more could have been done with this. But what's cool about it is that body art is being put into the mainstream!

Anybody been to a semi formal/formal event lately? ...seen all those shoulders and backless dresses and thought of the possibilities? I have!

I have seen some wonderful pics from formal events.... where was it.... and I can't remember. scratch

Beautiful... some tribals. some teardroppy swirlly flowerdy, Some had elaborate looking dragons going across the backs. I would really want to do something like that... but I'd really need some practice to work up some speed to do a large crowd.

I'd bet if you could get a few models in some formals to pose as examples... one might hit up a few high schools for prom season.

Ooh, and get some hot guys in tuxes with some tribals on the face. yep. That'd do it.

Oh dear. Not the best advert for us...the smooth flat areas of silver are intersting, could be metal foil (like silver leaf) onto body glue, make ups love doing that its always in their portfolios. rest, yep, prob something like Liquid bling and Temptu.

I would expect it would be a make-up artist, they tend to be booked for the videos anyway. And in many, many cases, no offence, being good at makeup does not make you good at body/ face art. The rules/ techniques are actually very different even if we use the same products. I am awful at 'proper' makeup on me or anyone, can't do it.

But had a gig this week where the faces for the dancers I was glitter-bodying was done by a pro makeup, and the work/ standard was VERY similar to that vid. Made me cringe and wish they'd paid ME for longer so at least the faces matched....

Re formals etc ; about 30% of my work is at balls, mainly for adults, and I do freehand glitter tatts or paint, usually eyes, back shoulders, to match. Goes down really well especially the glitter tatts as that won't rub onto their clothes. If you can offer table-side AND /or fixed table it helps - you do some as 'entertainment' as they eat at their tables then go to your set up when the dancing etc starts. Think I put some pics on here if not are on my www.

I'm now addicted to BIG glitter tatts - will check if I put the pics on here - as in full torso.
Talk about bling, my whole life glitters this month Smile
