FUNNY CUSTOMER

Post by FUNtasy on Tue Aug 19, 2014 9:27 am

Last week I got a e-mail asking me for a rate to paint 2 kids for a birthday party on Thursday.

I reply to my customer my hour rate and that I don't usually have that kind of service at least that I am hired by the hour.

I thought that he will not pay a full rate for just two kids. (personally I will not pay it!)

He reply as follow: So, do you mean that if I want to get my two kids you will not paint them?
Me: Absolutely no, if you want to pay the hour rate for painting your two kids will be my pleasure to give you the service.

He book me for my full hour rate I arrive to the event and of course I did my best to make his money worth I paint a butterfly and a star war character and I add 1 glitter tattoos since the boy did not wanted a tattoo, 30 min later I was out.

That was so far my funniest customer!

That's awesome!! I've been at slow festivals where I'm sponsored and there are time I'll paint the same kiddo until they run out of paintable real estate.

Whatever it takes. =)

"paintable real estate"--I like that phrase! (Do I call you Giggles or Loopsy? They are both cute!)

Yeah I would have painted arms and legs too for that price. I certainly would have felt like I was ripping some one off.

This is why I have a Private Session Rate. $35 for up to 3 paintings per family (on the same kid or different kids) $10/face after that. But the catch is they have to come to me! lol

Works great because i just set up in my garden in the back and don't really have to leave the house. I live next to an amusement park so I get lots of bookings for people who don't want to get the craptastic stuff they offer at the park for a crazy price. Wink

I would do them at private booking rates, if they came to me, but not if I had to go to them.

I do private bookings for Halloween, every year.

Is this something you advertise separately for halloween, or do you get alot of requests without advertising.I hadn't thought of doing it this way before reading this post. =)

I advertised on Craigslist and Kijiji. I got some great repeat customers from Kijiji. I got creepazoids from Craigslist...someone who wanted me to paint his weenie (what grown man refers to his penis as a weenie?), and a stripper who wanted me to paint her for free because she said she was kinda cute, and I could use the exposure. Thinking back...I should have introduced them to each other.

Lisa, I read that aloud with my husband, and we both died laughing! Laughing ! I'll make sure to stay away from craigslist.

cheers and fess for the win. Halloween brings out the freaks and the geeks (and everything in between)... Craigslist is generally the freak territory. I too got a nether-region paint request... but mine started out fairly normally (Hey, so can you do Venom body paint for a costume party?), which morphed quickly into classic freak request (Cool, OK so can you paint my penis if it is hard?). Good gawd, the freaks are sneaky sometimes.  pale

I got a "just turned 18" "naturist" who was "raised that way" but felt "uncomfortable" this year about attending the "annual naturist reunion barbeque" with his recent endowments--and could I body paint him? He seemed a bit feeble-minded to top it off, so I said I could, quoted my hourly rate & mentioned his mom would have to be present the entire time, with a signed permission slip--oh, and he would need a prosthetic--gave him SF's website to obtain it himself.
He made a couple of followup calls, "You know that online picture of an elephant--can you just do that?" It kind of resolved itself...
