who does custom reusable stencils?

Post by llegend on Sat Aug 30, 2014 4:46 am

Looking for someone who does custom reusable stencils at a decent price.  If you know someone who does... please list them. I know this topic was covered 3 years ago but the information is it dated.

Aryn and I know how to make them.

Here are some simple ones we made for Canada Day. And we are making more.

The two on top we made for some volunteers who were working with us, and the other two we made to match the shape of our BAM stencils.

We could made custom ones for you for a price, it just depends what size and how complex the design is.

These I would sell for $5 and $10. I know it might seem like a lot, but it really takes some X-acto Knife skillz to make them and it's a huge pain in the a** lol.

Depending upon whether or not you have good, clear graphics, I can cut stencils with my cutter. The cost would still be between $4-$15 per stencil (material and digitizing cost) plus shipping. And your design will be yours...meaning, you needn't worry about me turning around and offering it for sale else where (it's happened to more than a few people...so uncool!)

If your design is intricate electronic cutting is the way to go, since people like me would wind up bleeding all over the place if we handled an Exacto knife (you're a brave one Forest Fairy). CJ

@Forest-Fairy, what material did you use to make these stencils? They look really good and clean. I'd love to have some stencils to use in my kit, but money.... but I would totally invest some time in making some custom ones.

I use a heat pen to cut my stencils... I would cut off a finger if I tried to use a knife Smile

@ LittleMonsters
I can't remember the name. My husband found it and bought it for our face painting stencils. It's used for sewing. But that's all I can say off the top of my head. It works really great and is the same thickness as the BAM stencils more or less, they have the same 'bendability'. The only down side is that they stain a bit from the colors, so to me they are hard to clean. I'm still keeping my eye out for something with a smoother surface, but right now they work great apart from the stain left on the plastic.

Looking into buying a stencil printer too! Have to save up first lol.

I believe the material is usual 'mylar'- I could be wrong. I have no idea what material BAM's are, but I'd think they are made of a .04 milimeter thickness mylar.

Wallmart sells blank stencil sheets in 3 packs for $3 and change. I found some this weekend for $2.50 and grabbed a few. From what I could measure, you can fit 3 BAM stencils on one sheet. They also sell larger sheets of mylar (8x10, in 10 packs) for sewing as well, though its slightly thicker and an opaque white. Might be good for making your own custom french curves for bodypainting?

quick search for "bam stencil mylar" confirmed what you said. quote from product on amazon.com and other sites - "Bad A** Stencils are made of a durable yet flexible 7 mil Mylar plastic." A word got censored.
one site lists them as 7.5 mil thick.

search for "mylar stencil" yields listings of sewing and quilting stencils, too.

I just ordered custom stencils from ruby red paint - should arrive in a couple days. They were inexpensive and had quick turnaround!

I considered those for a bit, but i know the blue stencil material they use is really thin. I have a few like them around that are too big to use on the face. Better for airbrush I found.

We make custom stencils mylar 8.5 ml weight - but hands down best in the business is Stephaine McGrathy at Trendy Tribals mylar 10 ml weight.

I cut mine using a wood burner with a sharp tip. Here are some that I carved for this last Sunday's AIDS walk. I just cut them out of overhead projector plastics you get at the Office Depot or dollar store. These do not show the stencils, but I used the stencils to airbrush the paper and used it at the booth. So I guess these are the results? I do Company logos and then use them for the events
Here is my simple 'advert'

Hello,
I know this an old topic, but just wondering how your Silhouette Cameo worked out for stencils Forest-Fairy? Thinking of getting one to make my own like ShowOffs Quick EZ (blue transparency material, Mylar?). Investigating one I bought and it looks to be cut out with a blade. The white milky ones are lasered. I have access to a 60 Watt CO2 laser and have experimented a little. Exasperating to say the least, but I did get one stencil out of it that was promising. I actually like the clear blue stuff better as it sticks better to skin with less bleeding. Have you ever used it for vinyl glitter tattoos? Thanks!

Hi TheGlitterGal,
I have a silhouette portrait and I have been thinking of doing stencils for the last couple of days.  In the past I have cut logos with it on oracal 650 vinyl.  I have used this to make templates for glitter tattoos out of vinyl too and it works great.  (I used contact paper as my "vinyl" for those. as it did not have a lot of adhesive so it worked great for a temporary skin adhesion)
From what I have read, cutting a thicker plastic like the one for most face painting stencils dull the blades, and though I have an extra blade, I am still not willing to go there.  I think I will try thinner materials first.

I have no experience cutting with a Silhouette. Lots with an exacto but I tossed that early on in my business. I have a 24" plotter and cut anything from vinyls for adhesive backed to 8.5ml thick mylar. When you jump into that 10 ml it can be plotter cut but does it's best under a laser.

We really like that our designs are fresh and not what others may have. We certainly own all the Showoff's Body Art stencils. along with a huge assortment of great Trendy Tribals stencils and others 10 mls.

Year ago the TAT Store forum had a thread on using your Silhouette and Cricut cutters. Under Stencils I think.

Quick question, does someone here have a Superman logo stencil they could post a picture of?

I cut one with my silhouette but I am not entirely happy with it.
