Halloween/Zombies - Bullet holes

Post by ambercat on Fri Sep 26, 2014 10:44 pm

Hi everyone! Very Happy Does anyone have any idea of how to paint a convincing bullet hole? Have a zombie event to attend shortly and my attempts at bullet holes really aren't the best!!! Neutral

I would think if you started with a small black circle and went around it lightly with some red, more heavier at the bottom and added a small skin highlight to the top and a shadow to the bottom combined with a trickle of red blood oozing down from the black hole it would look ok. You could make the surrounding area look slightly bruised/irritated as well.

I'd look at the 3d bullet wound tattoos. Colors you would typically need are two types of red, black, skin colored palette, and some pearl white for non-opac shine that blends in. Maybe throw in some light splatter around it for good effect, just not too too gory because bullet wounds are pretty straight forward kind of holes.

Yes, without prosthetics PaintedWingsandWishes... still struggling along learning face painting! Wish I was clever enough to tackle it, but I'd better leave the prosthetics to the more experienced I think!! Laughing Although I did buy myself a tiny weeny container of Mehron extra flesh to play with... but I have absolutely no idea how to use it!!!!  Laughing

Thanks girls for your help!!!  Very Happy  I just tried this one out... is this any good do you think?

I'm a boy -_- Lol! Razz

That definitely looks like a pretty good wound with some dried blood.

lol

looks pretty good to me. Oh and btw I did find a tut on pinterest that seemed pretty easy if you wanted to try the fake skin. You make a small donut, and then you press the outside edge into the skin making it blend. Then you paint the inside black, the inner donut red, and just go from there.

I'm best at doing prosthetic bullet holes, painting them is just a matter of getting the shape and color right.

Here is a link to our 'wounds' folder if you are looking for some bullet hole entry and exit wound reference.

https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.310636685750886.1073741846.307138826100672&type=3

Bullet holes vary depending on where there are, what caliber the bullet/gun is, and how close. All things to take into account.

Entry wounds are more like perfectly round holes, while exit wounds are more like exploded skin.

Oh whoops!!! Sorry LittleMonsters!!! haha!!! Love your avatar!! Very Happy Thanks for the feedback! Forest Fairy... those pics are very helpful! I have been practising so hopefully I'll be able to roll out the bullet holes with ease on the day!! And thanks for the advice regarding the extra flesh/fake skin PaintedWingsandWishes... my container I bought is so teensy, I think I'd only be able to make a couple of donuts out of it!!! Will have a go at it though... Have to look at some fake blood recipes now, have bought some extra stipple sponges and some TAG Ivory for the bases... I think I'm almost set!!! Thanks again everyone!!!

Just my 2 cents -if you are painting and doing sfx on paying clients homemade (blood) is it not the best bet.
