Just did a "gig" over the weekend, I posted pics on my Pinterest Board hope I have success today with posting here. I wasn't sure what Forum to go to just to share the experience of a gig ??? Anyway , it was wonderful! Beautiful weather, awesome little people customers and I got experience on real little faces! I did about 35 faces from 11-4, I did charge. In the beginning I did some "Pro Bono" just to get the ball rolling ! It worked out ! No pic Sad please check out my Pinterest Board !

So glad your first gig went well, itty12!  I remember coming here to FPF two years ago, asking for support with my first gig.  I got such amazing advice and encouragement from people here, I've never forgotten it.

Congrats on making the leap to being a gigging* face painter!  Smile

*I initially typed "giggling face painter", and corrected my errant fingers.  But I hope you're a giggling face painter, too - life's always brighter with some laughter in it.  Very Happy

Here are the floral bits I've done recently:

Yes, the last one is my long-suffering best friend, Martin, who lets me paint anything I like on him whenever he's visiting from Ireland.  Very Happy

I'm finding painting very frustrating and tiring right now - it's hard re-learning things I used to know as second-nature! - but I'll keep working on it!

Thank you so much!  Smile  I love the colours in those split cakes - they're both Cameleon Colorblocks.  The round floral is using Soulfire, and the rose design is painted with African Sunset.

Starting over

Post by amylady222 on Fri Nov 28, 2014 11:50 pm

I started painting a few years ago, but never practiced much, moved to S. Korea for a year, and now just had a baby--SO I am starting over at a beginner skill level (not that I ever got past that level before!). I LOVE suggestions on how to better my work--so don't hold back!

if you post them at 640 px, they will show up well on the forum Very Happy

good start, you've got the blending colors going on and decent linework. when i search for face painting designs on the internet to look at, i've noticed some things about good designs, which i am trying to practice myself -

they have a good composition - the design is laid out well on the face, and highlights features on the face, not overpowers them.

they tend to have at least several colors, if not more (depending on how intricate they are), both complementary and contrasting. colors are blended well where they meet, and shaded where appropriate.

linework is crisp and clean, and lines vary in thickness. for example, outlines of animal ears might start thicker at the base and thin to the tip of the ear.

details complement the design, not too few, not to many, placed so they tie the whole thing together.
