Metallic paints as base for white

Post by monelle on Wed Oct 22, 2014 7:52 pm

In trying to paint white over metallic powder eyeshadow, I don't get good coverage (using Wolfe or DFX). It I were to try it over metallic paint (shades like blue, lavender, green--not too dark of course), are there any brands that really lend themselves to this, or any brands I should stay away from?

I'm not exactly sure of the question, but I love the metallic white by cameleon, and I also like capulet. What are you trying to do with the white over eyeshadow?

i recently bought several colors of eyeshadow to use for older girls' eye designs with face paint acccents.  i will try them out with wolfe white over and report how it works.

in the tag you're it thread i posted an abstract design with wolfe white over white eyeshadow and snazaroo sparkle turquoise over light blue and pale green eyeshadow, both worked well, but the shadows were white or pale.

friday, i will try wolfe white over colors, including a bright gold, a dark purple, and a pink blush. got home late tonight (thurs) and too tired.

thouart, I'm trying to use eyeshadow as a base instead of paint, because I really hate the whole sponge thing! I'm happy to use pale shadow, jlirie, but white is still lighter, so it's not working too well so far. Thanks!

swatches -
wolfe white (one coat) over pink cheek blush & 4 eye shadows,
wolfe white (one coat) over snazaroo sparkle & electric face paint,
wolfe white (one coat) over mehron gem powders (mica powders)

for each individual color i loaded the brush and did the 2 teardrops,
reloaded the brush and did the 4 dots,
reloaded the brush again and did the line.

best results = dry powder or paint surface + well loaded brush,
could probably use a double coat of wolfe white

swatch 1 -
wolfe white (one coat) over pink cheek blush & 4 eye shadows,

swatch 2 -
wolfe white (one coat) over snazaroo sparkle & electric face paint,

swatch 3 -
wolfe white (one coat) over mehron gem powders (mica powders),

sure thing!  as i play around with the eyeshadows, i am finding some colors can be a bit gritty, and they don't go on well with a brush, either wet or dry.  in the swatches above, i rubbed them on with my finger, but i don't think that's a reasonable option on someone else's eyelids.

since i prefer to use a brush rather than a sponge or blender, i am probably going to crush up the eyeshadows into loose powder and try them that way.

if that doesn't work, i will mix them with a little face paint in similar colors.  that works for the gem powders.
