Director's Chair with CARRYING CASE?

Post by Flying Laughter on Sun Dec 14, 2014 8:19 pm

So after lots of research it seems that this chair is really popular amongst face painters:

I am really considering it but I also really wanted a chair with a carrying case.
Anyone have ay suggestions?

The ez-up is comparable on price & has a carrying bag, but is lighter... if you really like the table aspect, it is probably not for you--but I like the fact that a table does not get in my way.

I have the chair you linked to in your missive. I have attached a camera strap to the chair and sling it over my shoulder. I like not having to wrestle the unwilling legs into the 'pants' of the carrying bag. The only thing that ever bothers me is when the strap gets twisted and I have to untangle the strap to open up the chair.

I attribute Fessie's creative & innovative brilliance to her nutritional intake...she gets an extra cookie!!

Um...
I thought I was creative and innovative because the dang chair legs were banging me on my legs, butt and hip, as I shifted the awkward chair around.  I reasoned that my brains are in my legs, butt and hip, because those are the body parts that 'spoke' to me to tell me to find a better way.
And, speaking of 'the Better Way'...
our public transit system, Toronto Transit Commission (The TTC) is called "the Better Way".  I use the TTC when I get a job booked right downtown.  I live about a 20 minute bike ride to the Exhibition grounds.  It takes me 40 minutes to drive because of the traffic.  I can get to the heart of the Financial District on the TTC subway in 20-30 minutes, and it takes an hour to drive.  I DO use the TTC to go to jobs downtown (unless they pay for parking, and possess an actual parking garage I can park inside).
I have had long conversations with myself on the TTC about how to condense, or make transporting my kit easier.
There are two good things that come out of these conversations...
1)  I sometimes come up with an idea.
2) People move away from me when I am having a conversation with myself... so I get a seat.

I tried taking the bus with my set up and it was a disaster! Too much stuff to transport, I had a rolling office depot collapsible box, and a silver box from harbor freight, and my small tv tray table and my makeup chair all strapped to the box, and then my gun case, it was perfect for transport. And then the second bus up the huge hill to the stadium would not let me on because it was so full. I should have drove to the Max, which is pretty awesome in comparison to the bus, but I don't know much about the bus routes around here and am still new to Oregon.

I ended up walking the 26 blocks with all of my kit, which the box started coming apart at the seams and was being barely held on by bungees. Of course the last 4 blocks are a huge hill, and then walking around the stadium to find the box seats my client were at. I wanted to collapse from heat exhaustion when I got there, and had a horrible headache on the way home.

I am always one that has a lot of water and ice packs but because it was all bungeed up I didn't have time to get to them..Don't recommend this experience for anyone...

thouartbeautiful, that qualifies as one of those "worst case scenario" experiences No

after that, did you downsize to a little snazaroo pallette? lol!

Oh! thouartbeautiful... that sounds horrible.
I am a face paint hoarder.
After attending FABAIC in 2014, and FPU:NE and seeing how little paint the instructors carried with them, I was inspired to downsize. I placed a small pearl in each of my paints, and when I used the paint I would remove the jewel. It was amazing how few colours I actually used. I have been on the hunt for smaller, more efficient cases.
I have to take the TTC downtown if I am face painting at a private box for Blue Jay Games... parking is $50!!! The TTC costs $3. I arrive really, really early (the kit must go through security, anyway) and I avoid the over-filled subway and over-filled streetcars. I leave well before the game is over and I get to go home on empty subways and streetcars.
I still carry too much stuff.
I find that smaller, more efficient equipment does not come with a smaller price tag.

this is the case I use for my chair

Post by Zona Films on Sun Nov 15, 2015 4:36 pm

I have that exact chair and I really like it.

I got this bag to carry it in
cost $29 on amazon

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L1PSSXO?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00

I also  have a step stool I use with my chair  so the kids can get in and out without  me having to lift them in and out of the chair ...  it is strong and safe  even for adults to stand on unlike the  cheaper plastic ones that often  break and someone can be hurt with...
here is the link for the step stool
cost $30 on Amazon

l http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004SAC3?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s01

I can put both the chair and the step  stool in the bag:)
makes it easy to carry both things with the shoulder strap
i like the bag and glad I got it.
it keeps my chair from getting dirty if i have to sit  the bag  on the ground
when loading  and unloading it. I sometimes have to deal with ground that is dirty with no grass and so the bag keeps  dirt off my chair

Once again, Fessie, you get to reward yourself with a cookie---I love the pearl idea. I dearly love my gun case set up, as I never forget anything anymore, and my set up & breakdown are quick...but I add the weight here and there until I need to cut down on extra supplies I tucked in again...

I was rethinking it, after feeling a bit stagnated with it--and then I scoped out Marcela's on another forum & felt so happy as I have it! (Of course the set up she pictured was for 2 weeks of solid festival work--whereas mine is mostly gigs--and I am not travelling cross continent to do it) Were I were doing teaching gigs, I would minimalize majorly.

I switched my paint color organization horizontally
from vertically to get me rethinking color choices, & lined all my super darks near the blacks to remind me to mix out line work colors. Sad...I know...its an addiction.
