Post by FUNtasy on Sat Dec 20, 2014 11:32 am

I have a customer that wants to hire me for three days (about 18hrs in total)
Actually I charge $90/hr and of course I am ask for a discount rate, I am completely lost about how much should I charge
the event is just 15 min from home so gas a travel fees is not really an issue, but I am lost about the rate. Can someone help me, please!

Wow that sounds awesome! I'm jealous!  Are they aware of your typical hourly rate?  Is it a big customer who would have $$$ to burn?

You have much more experience than I do... so I can't be very helpful, but a guaranteed 18hrs worth of work over 3 days (average of 6) within 15 minutes would make it pretty easy to give a discount IMO.

Because of the large amount of hours, you could always remind them what your hourly rate is, and ask roughly what discount they'd be looking for and see if you can find some common ground (ie, if you had a number in your head and see if their's is close).  I'm a newbie so that's generally how I work...

My advice to anyone is to decide these things in advance. I have a rate sheet that I keep up-to-date and it is only for my own reference (it is not shared with clients.) Then you are ready for inquiries like this.

Set an hourly rate.
Set a half-day rate (up to 4 hours) - I use this one a lot for non-profit bookings. It is 4 hours for the price of 3.25 hours.
Set a day-rate. Mine is 7 hours for the price of 6.

You set your own rate. If you want to set a flat rate of say $500 for a day and you want to call it 5, 6, 7, or 8 hours that is up to you.

Thank you all for the advice!

While ago I though I should have this ready just in case; then I completely forgot, since is not a common request, ( I guess I am getting better LOL Razz ) As you might see this is my very first time that I am ask to give a date rate, and for 3 days so I can of felt when she ask me about the rate that I better give her a very good rate.
Deeply appreciate your advice!
HAPPY NEW YEAR and once again thank you for the support!
