Brand New -- First Painting!

Post by Ash_A on Thu Jan 29, 2015 2:14 pm

Hello, everyone! Very Happy

I have been anxiously awaiting my first haul of face paint supplies....and today they made it! I'm so excited I can hardly stand it.

Anyway, I dug right in and my little guy was more than happy to have his face painted. He requested a tiger and  gave it my best shot.

(Totally forgot to put down the white at the "ears" (OOPS!) so had to go over the orange/yellow -- which just turned out so awesome...(not.) Aaaand his muzzle is a wee bit lopsided. Oooh and yeah, unsure of my stripe placement.

But for my first go I think I'm pretty pleased and HEY, my "customer" was happy enough with the results.

Feel free to leave me your kind, constructive criticism.

Thanks a heap,

Ashlie

Dear Ash_A:
You are amazing!
You will have to get constructive criticism from another painter. I really like your tiger line work. I think Denise Cold of Painted Party has some excellent pointers on tigers.

Happy Painting!

Ash, I saw the picture before reading your post. It was SOOOOO good and I didn't notice any of the imperfections until you pointed them out. So don't worry, it looks amazing. Good Job!

good job for a first! the nose is perfect, the gold color in the middle is great, and blended well, and the white in the muzzle is nice and opaque. the left stripe on the forehead is a particularly perfect thin-thick-thin. keep making those Very Happy

Looks good to me!

You sure you haven't done this before? lol I Wouldn't think you were a noob at all.

Fessy I totally saved that image by Denise!

Here it is. Just remember there is more then one way to skin a cat! But these are some pretty good points - it took my tigers to the next level.

Thanks for posting that. I'm going to save it for reference. Smile

It's my first but I've been watching youtube videos for about a month and a half straight. So, I give all credit to my various youtube teachers. Wink

yep, keep practicing. like you, my approach to learning face painting designs was to watch videos, both the good and some that ended up being bad, as well as study good designs and try to duplicate them.

i found i learned the techniques as i tried to imitate the best designs, and it's always harder than it looks, lol.

most people would emphasize practicing clean linework and details, it's the deciding factor in the better designs.

Im glued to You Tube - Lisa Joy Young is my 'go to' at the moment. But also check out Cameron Garrat and Ashlea Henson. All are Fab, flawless and make it look extremely easy - when its not!! Lol. Olga Meleca is another amazing artist - her work is so detailed, its beautiful. Those artists are my inspiration.
