Bruises from face paint!

Post by Judy on February 6th 2010, 11:31 pm

As a special treat for my students, I let them pick a design and paint them on or close to their birthday. The kids are always so excited.

Last week, I painted a little girl (It was one of Shannon's eye designs) and she absolutely loved it! I told her to wash it off before she went to bed and all was OK..... or so I thought.

Monday morning, she came in and I noticed she had bruising around her eyes. Obviously being concerned that something happened, I asked what happened.. she said that she loved her face painting so much that she left it on for 2 days (mom went away for the weekend and she was left with dad) and she had to scrub really really hard to get the design off....thus the bruising!

Story of my life....... students missing my directions again!!! Rolling Eyes lol!

Has anyone else notice that if you face paint someone how has been swimming a lot in a highly chlorinated pool (i.e. public pool) that the skin is so dry it seems the pore seem to soak up the colours. As a result the colours do not come off complete and there is a shadow of colour for a few days. Now I make my daughter use a moisturiser between swimming and face painting.

I discovered this when I once painted around my daughters eyes (I forget what but it had green and purple in it), it did not wash off completely and she had these green and purple shadows around the eyes. A lot of people thought she had black eyes.

Oh my goodness!

Now I'm definitely going to get those business cards like some of you have with washing instructions on the back. I thought it was a little overkill at first when I read in big bold letters NO SCRUBBING. And to use moisturizer... oh my.

Imagine explaining that one to child protective services.

lotion lotion lotion. that will take up most all stains after washing and yes dry skin will suck in every thing it can Chris, your right on. That's why I wash, moisturize and primer before I do make up for any shoot on just about any skin type. Well if it wont come off let it stay if the scrubbing is bruising the por kid. That lady must really have a clean thing lol. It will avuncularly ware off. I cant remember how told me but Jurgans seems to do a really good job of pulling up even wolf red and black stain. I have a little girl that fallows me to my public gigs and wares my neon tiger for as long as it will hang ROFL.

I use alot of dfx and wolfe, any lingering colours (including metallix and black) will come off with a cloth and childrens shampoo, any shampoo actually but on my kids face, I only use the tear free kids stuff just in case it goes where it shouldnt. I have actually had parents ask me as their child is being painted if they should use nail polish remover to get it off. The next day I ordered my business cards with removal instructions on the back! Holy cow, some parents must really not like their kids! lol

Polish remover!!!!
OMG!!!
My other tip is if you are worried about staining, dab a quick sheer layer of something fairly pale (like Snaz sparle white or turquoise etc) around the eyes/ area before you put the stronnger green/ blue on top. I stain badly froma ll green/ blues no matter what I do and found that on me and most I tried it on, that underlayer does not affect the top colour but does help it wash off easily.
