which metallic green paint?

Post by bubbleblossom on Wed Feb 04, 2015 7:54 pm

Hi all I have used the search but haven't found my answer so:

I am looking for a metallic green Paint. I have mermaid and under the sea faces in mind... So maybe an emerald colour?

I was recommended chameleons metallic green but on the picture it looks like a mossy colour? I know Wolfe have one but they seem to only sell them in larger sized pots and I'm not sure I'd use it much more after the party...

What's your recommendation? I like vibrant colours not sheer.

i got the mehron paradise brilliant pallet (metallics), and pretty much love all the colors. (the silver is like bright, opaque liquid silver!)

here are swatches -

here is a design showing the green a little better, not sure it's a sea type of shade though -

I haven't been able to source mehron in Australia :-( I could get it off eBay if I wanted to pay between $20 and $45 postage from USA...

Wow that silver is pretty!!

Ooh thank u...wonder why it wasn't coming up when I searched?

Is $29 for 30grams the going rate??? Seems pretty steep. Is it worth it?

in the us, tag pearl green on amazon.com is only $9-$11, including shipping.

looks like the paradise brilliant green is $28 aud for 40 g, or $22 usd, equivalent to $16.50 for 30 g. so it is a bit more expensive.

Hmm. Tag is easily available and inexpensive here... And I have a lot of tag and like it. But I'm hesitant to buy any tag other then the base line because I purchased tag neon pink and its way too sheer I barely use it. And I also bought tag pearl gold and it is also too translucent. it's pretty but too sheer. I also have their shimmery kind of lilac. its better then the other two and I have Used it for butterflies but I need my green quite vibrant.
Have you tried the tag green? If its a "pearl" it'll likely be another weak colour. but if its a proper metallic it should be nice?

I have a chameleo. Silver and it's amazing. I wish they did a metallic green in a pretty emerald colour!!

i do not have any tag, so unfortunately can't comment. others have mentioned neons are notoriously sheer, and some pearls or metallics can also be more sheer.

maybe another forum member will chime in. i found some photos of tag pearl green, it looks pretty opaque, bluer than the paradise.

here is a link to a forum photo with a swatch of tag pearl green, it's the one in the middle-

From my experience, neons and a lot of the lighter pearl and metallic colors are sheer when applied with a brush, but are very opaque when sponged on. I have a good many TAG pearls and I use them mainly for sponging on the bases, but the metallic purple is great for lining butterflies and what not since it's a deep purple that also shines. I use it quite often since it's not as harsh as a black outline.

There are several Mehron suppliers that come to mind in your country. All you need to do anywhere is ask Mehron and they will tell you distributors in your area.

Ask Robyn at http://alwayswicked.mybigcommerce.com/
or try http://looneybin.com.au/

So mehron seems to be the go for metallic green then? That's the recommendation?

Dear bubbleblossom:
TAG Pearl Green is perfect for Green Lantern's Mask... it also stains like stink! I always ask parents if I use it because of the staining factor. In three years, I can distinctly recall only one parent telling me, "No".
TAG Neon Pink IS too sheer. TAG Neon Magenta is better... and it is the BEST when combined to create my own Base Blenders. I have put my TAG Neon Magenta into the same paint well as my regular pink.... if I want just pink, I can paint using only one side of the well... if I want just Magenta, I can paint using only one side of the well... if I swirl the colours together, I get an opaque pink that 'POPS' (and is still UV reactive, if only a little duller than full strength Neon Magenta).
I can turn any gold paint into MOLTEN LAVA GOLD!!!!... when I sprinkle a little Mehron Metallic Gold Powder over the paint.

hmmm. thank you. Tag is literally half the price... Im considering it... the staining is a bummer though. I am able to get a Diamond FX metallic green and wondering if this would be better (being twice the price id hope so!!)

I want this merhon metallic gold powder of which you speak...

ooh, dat's byooteeful Smile

for staining, try painting a layer of gold face paint first, then the tag pearl green over it. i do that for red.

the gold is very similar to skin color, and doesn't lighten or pink-out the red, like white or a light color would.

Dude! don't get the TAG. I was at a body painting event last month and got to try some of the mehron metallics from another artist in comparison with a few of my tag ones.

The Mehron metallic dark green kicked the sh!t out of my TAG one. But I will say that the TAG bronze was better. I did a side by side comparison but my camera was dead, so alas, no photo.

Mehron silver was better too. Last Silver I bought from them years ago was Cr@p. But it seems they upped their game.
I'm going to pick myself up a green and silver next time.

Highly recommend.

I like Wolfe metallic green

Post by AuntieStacey on Mon Feb 09, 2015 8:05 pm

I use the Wolfe Metallix Forest Green a lot. Great with light green for snakes, turtles, the Hulk, & shading on boy monster designs because it's not too obviously metallic. Also pretty for hummingbirds, etc.
