So i have a snazaroo color wheel and I'm looking to upgrade, which type of brand should I get and why do you recommend it?

lots of info on brands if you search the forum.

generally there are glycerin based brands that are better for bases (the larger areas of color), creamier and blend well, take a bit longer to dry - paradise, kryolan, fab, ben nye, global, snazaroo, ruby red.
metallic and pearl colors tend to be thicker due to the mica or shimmer ingredients.

and paraffin wax based brands that are better for linework and details, more "liquid", don't blend as well, and dry faster - wolfe, tag, dfx, cameleon, kryvaline.

most people have some of each, and often many different brands in their kit. people usually recommend buying colors you like, whatever the brand, in addition to how you will use them (bases vs linework).

there are also powders - mehron starblends, intense pressed powders, and gem powders, and ben nye lumiere powders.

I would recommend trying a few: paradise, tag, and cameleon are my go to brands, but as far as Tag, Wolfe, DFX, Cameleon, Global you can much pick one or the other and they're more or less the same as far as consistey but are essential for good line work so get a white and a black (my brand is Cameleon but do like Tag and Wolfe and Wolfe is best for teeth.

I also recommend l purchasing a pallet of 12 colors (can be either paradise or any of the other brands I mentioned to start at least and then replace as you go in larger containers for cost efficiency but I refill my pallet for my kit (I have two).

Paradise is an amazing brand for bases and the company has an amazing rep for makeup, the cakes last a long time and the colors are beautiful, they do have a slight tropical smell but I think it smells great (much better than the Fab brand which I think smells awful!).

Tag and Cameleon are my favorite for colors and consistentcy, but I hear Global is non staining in comparison and haven't tried yet (I don't worry about the stain really, part of the territory and proper washing goes a long way), and price wise I think the products I currently use works great for me.

For beginners (as you said you have only been painting since Oct in your intro post) I would for now stick with glycerin based paint. I would however update from snaz to Paradise by Mehron. The learning curve is a lot lower since the dry time isn't as fast, so you can take your time with blending. But defiantly get some wax based white and black for line work; this will also help you develop a feel for that type of paint to see if it's something you would prefer.
