Peach, apricot and flesh tone paint???

Post by Spitfireshortie on Wed Apr 29, 2015 10:28 pm

I've got a couple cakes of "flesh" tones like complexion pink, apricot, and peach...
Never used them.... Can't see what I would use them for....
Anyone use much of these colors? If so ... what for?

if you do designs with characters in them (mermaid, fairy, etc) you could use them for the character's face or arms.

i tend to let the child's skin be the background for the character's skin, as it's difficult enough to do the other details Smile

I don't colour the skin of the characters, since the kid underneath is also fleshtone Wink
I used to have these colours as well, and ended up using them in rainbowcakes just to get rid of them...

Anniel: do share! how would I be able to find this post *evil grin*

To give more contrast I like to paint the exposed flesh of a character (fairy, mermaid, princess, sometimes super heroes etc) I like to make it either two shades lighter or two shades darker than the skin tone of the child.

I keep a beige colour in my kit, a regular brown, and two whites (and older one that has the paint worn down to the sides, and a newer one.) I find I can blend these three colours to achieve the tone I want. I use the older white to blend with and for double dipped flowers so that my regular white doesn't turn into grey.

It's also great for monkey bellies, faces, and feet!

By doing a quick search, I found a thread that sounds like it might be the ruckus that Anniel is referring to:

interesting thread, brought up some good points. glad everyone talked it out. good tips on painting different skin tones.

from what i've heard and read in the news and online, lighter skin is still a thing, subconsciously and overtly. some people perceive it as better to be lighter or white, no matter what skin tone they are. same for the whole blond haired, blue eyed thing.

best to be careful with comments that could be misunderstood.

I was accidentally using a very pale flesh tone as a white base yesterday, as the sun was too bright at the time and i couldn't distinguish it. I always use diamond fx for my white line work.

Looking back at the photos and the slightly off white base coat didn't look fleshy at all and it really made the white line work pop out more than ever. It made the whole design pop.

Will definitely be using this serendipitous trick in the future!
