Face Painting Before Bouncy Castles!?

Post by LittleMonsters on Thu Apr 30, 2015 9:29 pm

I have a birthday party coming up and the host wanted me to paint at the end of the party since they're having bouncy castles at the party... I mentioned how I typically paint at the beginning so that guests can be painted as they arrive (and aren't waiting as long) and because some guests get picked up early (and thus would miss out on being painted). †The host agreed to have me start at the beginning of the party.

Was this a bad move? †Anyone have a similar experience? †Party outdoors, temperature around 20C or 70F....

Are all those pretty butterflies going to look like this??

lol, one can only imagine. but i actually don't have any experience with this, so i will let someone else deflate that for you..

you could tell them to be sure someone gets a cell phone pic of their face before they play in the bounce castle. or offer touch ups, if you have time.

Yup, I offered photography in my initial reply - they passed, but I offered again on my last follow-up before the party just in case. †Was also thinking of offering touch ups at the end if time allows.

Your client may want to check with the bouncy house rental to see if they mind having painted faces in the castle- as if it does smudge or smear on the tarp it may need additional cleaning. That being said, I prefer to paint after, because sometimes kids sweat profusely!

The work BBQ I did last year had a bouncy house and I don't recall any problems. The kids (there was only 10 or so) kept coming back to me. Not because their paint had smeared but because they wanted something else on their arm or cheek or something. So they would get painted, go to the bouncy house, and return for something else. All their masks looked fine to me.

You may not have a problem.

Itís usually a problem when itís hot and humid out...or the kid just sweats lot. spring time weather (70 degrees) should not be a problem.

All right, painted a bunch of kiddos today and even with the heat (ended up hotter than I had mentioned in my previous post) and the bouncing and falling all over, the paint held up really well... no issues there so that was a big relief! †Even got a nice tip ^_^

Nope! †And actually not even one butterfly was requested... sad day... but I got to really work on my kitty cat faces - think I have something I really like now - practised some flowers until after 2AM last night... couldn't get the press flowers to work on Geodot (my horribly stained practice head) but the problem was that they just don't work as well as they do on skin - so when I tried on my arm I was fine >_<

I'm glad it turned out well! I always encounter bouncy castles at festivals, and although in the Summer I've seen paint sweat off (Of course I'm in the hot and humid Southern USA Laughing ) but never had anyone complain.

glad you got a chance to perfect your kitty in real time.

true about skin, i prefer my "practice arm", easy to practice on, but not much real estate.

Here's a little tip I have that works really well... (***I use the glycerin based paints) Dust the whole face with baby powder before painting. Be sure to ask about asthma beforehand, then tell them to close their eyes and don't breathe. I've seen face paint hold up to some pretty extreme circumstances by doing this.
