Demo for Girl Scouts

Demo for Girl Scouts
I have an opportunity tonight to present my business to an entire group of Girl Scouts leaders at their monthly unit meeting. They are trying to decide what kind of entertainment to have at their end of year parties, where they spend their profit from their cookies sales.
They want me to set up and demo my face painting and glitter tattoos to them. I'll be painting on the actual leaders, since no children will be present, and I have to wait until their meeting is over and present after the meeting.
Any suggestions on how to do this? My daughter, who usually helps me with this, is in Dallas visiting family for a couple of weeks and this offer just came in. It's a great opportunity. There should be around 20 leaders there, which could possibly turn into 20 parties.
I know I should put together designs for little girls. Any other suggestions?

Re: Demo for Girl Scouts
My neighbor's granddaughters are are all girl scouts, and I use them to practice on(they are always asking me to paint them anyway). One of them has more of a hippie/boho style, so I came up with a peace sign and flowers design for her, but other than that, they basically like regular girly designs like unicorns, butterflies, etc...
Good luck with your presentation!

Re: Demo for Girl Scouts
If the US Girl Scouts is anything like the Canadian Girl Guides, don't they have little teams that they are grouped into? I forget what they called them... I was the leader of the "Sprites" when I was in Brownies... you could try to paint those little characters as well? some of the symbols and stuff that they use? But yeah, they're little girls... fairies, crowns, butterflies.... even if the symbols you learn aren't requested by the girls at the parties, it might go over well with the leaders that you made the effort to personalize it for them.
Re: Demo for Girl Scouts
I am a Girl Scout Leader and the cookie chair for our troop of about 80 girls as well as our entire county with about 15 troops.
I know that our troop does not have excess funds to pay for a face painter or glitter tat artist to do our events. There is so little profit from cookie sales (only about $0.50 per box sold), that it would take a ton of sales to pay for something like that, but kudos to them if they make enough and then spend it all on things like entertainment. Our girls have to use that money for their projects, badges, camp outs, and trips.....but then again, our girls are very active in scouting and do alot of service projects, etc.
The reason I brought all of this up is because it might be good to ask them their budget beforehand, just so you know if it is even enough to cover your services.
If all you are looking to accomplish is marketing for future birthday parties, etc....what you might do instead is to offer to do the demonstration for a group of the girls who are working on their Puppets and Plays or Theater or Drama badges, as a theatrical makeup demo fits one of the requirements for those badges. Then, you are still marketing to the moms who might hire you for future parties.....even more so actually, because getting the girls excited about what you do and sending a card home with each of them is a much broader reaching advertisement for your business than demoing for the leaders.
Just a thought.

Re: Demo for Girl Scouts
Thanks so much, ya'll - especially you, Lisa!
A lady at our church asked me to do this, but didn't really give me any information at all to work with, only that they might be interested in doing these parties. I wasn't going to charge them full price, because I want to do them for advertising purposes and to help them out, but I won't really know their budget until tonight. That's a good idea about the badges... I'll throw that in with my presentation

Re: Demo for Girl Scouts
I just did a quick presentation for a Junior patrol in our troop a few weeks ago to kick off their Theater badge. I just discussed how theatrical makeup differs from regular street makeup, different types (cakes, creams, liquids, powders, water based vs grease paint, etc) product safety, Special FX products, and how makeup has been used in theatrical productions throughout the years.
The girls were really interested and seemed to enjoy it.
And this past Tuesday night, our whole troop (all age groups) participated in a Journey to India program. Our 8th grade Cadette patrol (the one my daughter is in) was in charge of the arts and crafts station....they did a Mehndi inspired swap with the girls. So to add to that station, I gave a brief henna tutorial to each group rotation as they came through that station. I just did a brief (about 5 minute) lecture-style presentation with visual aids before they made their swap so they would know a little more about the art of Mehndi. Then I did a quick henna demo on one of the 8th grade girls for each of the 4 rotations. I had already done a larger henna design the night before on my daughter so they couls also see what it looked like with the paste removed and how it actually penetrated the skin unlike temporary tattoos. And she had a 3 week old design on her other hand to show how it fades away over time as your skin exfoliates (that wasn't planned, she just happened to still have remnants of an old design on her hand, so it worked out well).
If you do end up doing a Girl Scout event and need any pointers or info, I'd be happy to help.

Re: Demo for Girl Scouts
Oops- forgot to update this! When I arrived, they were all out in the parking lot because they had been locked out of the building they usually meet in. They were going to go ahead and have their meeting, but since we couldn't see squat, they asked me to come back for next month's meeting. Actually works out better because I was able to hand out my brochures anyway, and I've already gotten 2 bookings from just that! Plus, my daughter was out of town and I would've had to demo on the grown-ups. She'll be back from Dallas on Tuesday so we'll have more time to prepare.
