Re: Is face painting your main source of income?
It's just in the beginning stages still for me as an income. I teach Wedding Planning at the local university, design marketing materials (logos, business cards etc), and face paint for income. My husband works full time and pays all the bills, my income pays for my 'creative' habits. Most of my time is focused on our home and raising two beautiful girls. My youngest will be in full time kindergarten next year so I hope to be geared up by then to go full speed on the face and body art business.
Re: Is face painting your main source of income?
It's my only job, for the time being. Of course I'm manager of the face painting booths at the Downtown Aquarium and Kemah Boardwalk, so not only do I paint but I train and hire people, as well as scheduling, etc. But I do get out to do festivals sometimes.
Re: Is face painting your main source of income?
This is my secondary income... I own my own drafting and design business, where I work with builders and individual clients to design their dream home and draw up all the construction drawings. Business was booming after Katrina with all the reconstruction, but with the economy in the shape it's in (and the mortgage industry), construction has slowed waaaaay down. Then hubby got laid off from his job of 25 years at Stennis Space Center and had to take another job making $25,000 less a year. Which meant I had to come up with another way to make ends meet!

Second income for me. I'm a network engineer at NASA during the day.
Re: Is face painting your main source of income?
for me, face painting helps to pay the bills, its sortof a 3rd income. This area is small in potential customer base, and hit rather hard by the recession. diffently if i didnt love it, i couldnt afford to to do it.
Re: Is face painting your main source of income?
No you aren't Mike! Really are you and engineer at NASA?
My husband brings home the bread, I just butter it per say.

I'm a nurse on my "square" job. I would love to do this FT if I can. For now it is a passionate hobby that gives me a creative outlet and mental break. Great question !!

Re: Is face painting your main source of income?
I quit my job to put all my efforts into starting my own face and body painting business. My hubby suports us.... poor him, I wanted to find something that fed my creative monster and allowed me to spend more time with my 4yr old.
My hubby just got a new airbrush set up for tattoos and face/body painting.... so I'm coaxing him into the industry slowly but surely.

Painting is my third income, FT admin. for Manufactured Homes Dealership, seems FT manufacturing Chillits (craft item) craft shows and Home and Garden shows County Fairs and more all summer, where I also paint. PT face painter, I'm busy every weekend painting during apple season (fall), and of course Christmas time, I work a choose-and-cut tree farm. My hubby has three jobs too. I love the smiles! and every penny helps.

I am a computer software engineer during the weekday- feeds my logic side of my brain - this job pays by mortgage and gives me health insurance. Face painting I do on weekends. Feeds my creative side of my brain.

Re: Is face painting your main source of income?
I'm a college student, so I don't really have a steady income, but when I paint, it's some extra spending money. I stressed myself out so much over looking for a steady job that my parents were like, "OK stop looking for jobs, we'll support you until you finish college." I hate having to mooch off my parents, but I only have (not counting this semester) 1 more year left--I just want to be done with it and get my degree already!

I'm in college as well, and face painting not only pays for my tuition, but it always pays for my living expenses. You can make a good living with face painting if you try.. it's works out with a college lifestyle as well, because you only have to work nights and/or weekends.
Re: Is face painting your main source of income?
Just like Magic, I am plotting to eventually make it one of my main income. :p
I'm currently juggling with a full-time job and makeup/illustration jobs on the side.
This year is the year I make the jump. Oh, yeah!
