"Blacklight" (UV) bulbs are flourescent. You must have blacklight UV blubs.
I'd say you did not have enough light. It was body art and to capture it fully you needed more light. Note how on this posted image the UV makeup really glows in that one spot the light is hitting - to illuminate the other areas of the face (body) you needed more light. Three lights to position light waves coming in at the proper angles
is best (the center is illuminated but the sides are not).
If you are just trying to photo your own face for those few images one 48" will do but more is better. For an in studio session or low light location shoot the effect you want to create must have proper lighting. You needed the three lights x2.
