First Paid/non-Family Gig Photos

Post by CABBYJ on Sun Mar 07, 2010 8:00 am

Technically this is my first paid gig. I've done work for family, churches, volunteered......But to actually do it for a stranger.... pale I was a nervous wreck, my confidence was shot. But once I got started Very Happy . I still have a lot to learn first lesson being I need to purchase a taller chair, even though I'm only 5' 3"!

Great job! I know how you feel about being so nervous! I did my first paid gig on 2/13 and I was so nervous I was shaking. I was way too overwhelmed to take pictures.
You are doing great! Love the pictures! sunny

Nice painting. well done to you.
When I look back on old pictures from quite a while ago I was not that good. Also had not at that time discovered DFX,TAG Wolfe etc.

Cabby, your work is fantastic and I would have never believed it was your first paid gig at all.
Wish you lived closer because the one thing my students leave class with is lots of confidence in themselves! I don't travel but my business manager is working on getting my classes online.
Keep practicing, because you only get better with time ; )
Happy Painting,
Susan

Cool! I esp. like the top corner blue eye!

Yep, if you like to stand to paint, you need a tall chair. I like to do both, so my dream would be to have my tall chair, and to have one that rolls around for me! I've seen hair dressers have them. Then all I would need is a hard floor everywhere I go, and a truck for all this stuff I want with me all the time! (where did that pic of Shannon's dream make-up trailor go?) I digress.

There's no reason to feel unsure of yourself! (Okay, there always is for everyone, but you shouldn't listen to it because...) You are your worst critic, and the kids are happy no matter what you throw on their faces... if you got the gist, they're good. It happens all the time, I'm not happy with a face, and the parent is going on about how great it is. Don't tell them otherwise! AND, if it's that bad... wash it off and start again! No matter what... we've got a pretty fun job. Go with it! And congrats, Professional Face Painter!

its amazing work you have going there, as for the stomach butterflies, they stick around even after years of practice. I think it has to do with what you expect, vs what you fear.

Incredible Job, and you took pictures too....amazing.

I still get butterflies. Everyone is ever so supportive. When my hands are shaking, I usually ask the person in my chair if they're nervous....I usually get a yes, so then tell them that we have to shake in unison. It breaks the Ice, puts us on the same team, and I find that they usually sit a lot stiller for me, I think it's because 'they're helping me out'. I have a quirky sense of humor, and this works with it, and we have fun. Maybe I should just give up the coffee!

My daughter was there as my brush washer and would take an occasional photo.
