Rainbow, arty & split cakes?

Post by melisadill on Sun Mar 07, 2010 1:08 pm

So I've noticed alot of designs using these cakes. Several questions...

As a newbie would you suggest investing in several of these?

Also what are your fav combos?

What's the difference in them? I think it's the size and what size do you use/like best?

Inquiring minds want to know! confused

I like the big regular rainbow cake and the big neon rainbow cake.

I then have about 12 little ones, all in colors/combos that I think are pretty...

They make a big wow impact with a minimal amount of effort. The mini's are great for doing one-stroke techniques... like DonnaDewberry. Loads of fun! I let my painter-friend try one of mine out today, and she made the coolest tattoo style swallow. Now, she's hooked.

My absolute fav is the big neon. I couldn't live without these. I do like the minis for a dramatic effect, but it is a good bit of tackle to haul around to jobs.

I think if the minis are Arty Brushes could come in a container of 10, they would be great. Try a few to find out what you like. Don't rush to buy them all at first as the technique does have a learning curve.

I would think there will be tons to try and choose from!

I love my neon rainbows (large and mini). The traditional rainbow is great too, but doesn't oomph quite as much...the neon is just my go-to one.

Love dk green/neon green/yellow for leaves, light blue/white and turquoise/sky blues for dolphins, and you know you can't go wrong with pink/purple for flowers, butterflies and princesses...

I love splits!

Well I am rediculously impatient, lol! I ordered the large and small neon rainbow, and 2 more small- 1 is the fire one and the other has pinks and purples. I know I can't go wrong with the neon, everyone seems to love those! I figure the fire would be good for boy designs and the pinks/purples good for girl designs. Kristal, I almost got the blues for the dolphins cuz I live down here on the coast and I wanted the greens too. But with not really having a kit, I know I should pace myself, lol!!! Now I can't wait to get them in to try some designs!
Thanks again peoples!

Haha, well, you can always cut OUT a section from your blue and put IN a strip of white and have your own quick and easy dolphin split? I've got a home made Snaz turquoise/white/bright pink split, and can do dolphins with that, plus the usual flowers etc - and it's a refreshing alternative to a pink/purple butterfly, if the girl is wearing blue Razz

Great minds think alike!! I have a couple of those little Snazz party sets that I was thinking of doing that with. I bought them to start practicing with and now there are several that I have used the mess out of and others not so much. So I wanted to combine them so that I didn't have all these half containers. Now, I know there are directions out there somewhere.....

PS I really like the blue flower thing, duh!! Wink

Krystal,

Do you have any pics using that cakes? That sound like a good cake I can make to add to the split cake section. Thanks!

Re: Rainbow, arty & split cakes?

Post by melisadill on Sat Mar 13, 2010 6:57 pm

Ok, HELP!!! I got my cakes in today and WOW that was fast! Didn't expect that with free shipping, thanks Matina! Anyway was so excited to try them out, but I stink!! Don't know what I'm doing wrong, but it's the loading process that is breaking me down. I've tried several different ways.

The first cake I tried was the fire. I tried the easy fire mask from Silly Farm on youtube. The first way it tried was spritzing the cake with water and then loading. Well that was WAAAY to much water. The black just ran all over the place and I basically had a black cake. So I cleaned all that off and the brush too, then I tried dipping my brush in water then the cake, then it was too dry! So then I tried spritzing the cake again but just not so much. Still didn't work. I'm really having a time with the black wanting to take control of the cake.

I'm gonna try to post some pics but they are on my phone and I'm not sure how to get them from there to here. I'm definately gonna be working on my flames cuz they look pathetic, but I got to get the loading thing down first.

Thanks for any help!!
