The traditional, scientific rainbow spectrum is:
ROYGBIV: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet.
I think this is the issue.
Depending on the boldness of a rainbow all the colors might not be visible, but all rainbows, worldwide are the same Very Happy

i made a metallic rainbow cake like changing but used pink instead of red

people say don't use red around they eyes maybe that is why tag put it on the other side of the purple

just my thoughts

I agree with Barb. I bought the DFX regular rainbow cake and cut it up to make different splits because with the purple on the inside of a butterfly it looks like a bruise over the eye and I am afraid with all of the info not to put red over the eye to use it that way. I like the metallic TAG rainbow cake I have. The pink is much softer over the eye and I guess safer to use. I don't think the kids mind it and they find it awesome enough, although so far I haven't done any butterflies with it, just the circles with a mop for peace signs and they don't get all the colors together for that anyway.

I have to say that I love my TAG pearl rainbow. This is my daughter's new favorite design. (It's only 1/2 the colors)

and here's me in a butterfly with the whole thing:

Yes, but usually the issue is... where does pink go? You can use pink instead of red, before red, or after violet because of the color WHEEL. When mixing them you get red-orange-yellow-green-blue-purple-red (again.)

...but I guess the question is, how does each country REPRESENT the rainbow.

Isn't the main point of face painting about creating art and beauty and making kids smile? I wasn't aware that we are supposed to replicate science Embarassed Wink

I still thinks the TAG rainbows are lovely, but can see how the different order can bother some. I say make the best of a quality product and as Gina has shone, it is very nice!

Gina, I like your designs. One of the most popular I've done, if not the most popular is a peace sign made with a mop in my metallic rainbow cake. The girls can choose which color combo they want because the mop is smaller than the rainbow cake. They think it looks tye dyed. I do it with my neon rainbow cake also.

when I do butterflies i let the kids pick the color or depending what they are wearing.. they rarely pick the triditional rainbow cake.. mose of the time its pastels or the neon...neon looks great with the opaque glitter tones it down a bit

I have the tag neon rainbow cake and love it.
It isn't the order of it like starting with red that bugs me but I like the colors to have the order that they have on the color wheel. It is the orange that I find out of place for some reason LOL
I would love for my rainbow to start with a yellow, then orange, then red (in the middle far from the eye Smile) then I would add pink, purple, blue and green.
Maybe I can skip the red.

PS: Gina, I love your daughter's eye design, so beautiful. I like your butterfly too, you can't really see the orange there, I like that.
Did I mention I am a little anal about some things?

I'm only talking about a true rainbow(and IMO pink is interchangeable with red because of the eye issue). I'm talking about when a rainbow is made & they're out of order. I love many colors of arty/rainbow/split cakes Very Happy
Funny thing is right after I posted this I was driving to take my mom to her Dr apt & there was the most beautiful/perfect rainbow in the sky... good ol' ROYGBIV!

I used less than half a cake (metallic baby blue) for a full body avatar base (Halloween costume nightclub contest) -- the coverage was superb....(& the model won an ipad!)

I have a question, I heard through another topic out there that Wolfe and DFX are made by the same company. Are the DFX metallics better than the Wolfe ones? I have the Wolfe metallics palette and I think its good. But, I'm totally a noob and haven't used anything else. And I am working on building a kit up so I'd like the best products.
