I hate my limited painting abilities...

Post by Painted Dragon on Sat Mar 13, 2010 11:17 am

I can see good painting. I know the difference. I can also picture things really well done in my head. But when I get the brush in my grasp, my hand doesn't seem to understand what I'm trying to do. Not sure if it is better that I know, or if blissful ignorance is better.

Argh!

after the first bit of training that I took, I spent hours practicing tear drops, swirls and dots... I'm sure there will be more things to practice after the full day workshop I have coming up with Sean Avram.

It takes time to get to that point, when the brush and mind become one. You will no longer think about what your painting, just that you are painting. Believe though, that everyone has off days. I have days where, for what ever reason, I can't even draw a stick man.........lol Once I stop thinking about the what, it all flows

I feel the same way. The best thing I can say, though, is practice, practice, practice.
When I first started designing clothes as a hobby, I couldn't draw at all. Now you would be surprised what I can sketch out. The same applies to any art form. With experience, you will get better.

I hate that my lines are always bumpy and never smooth... I think that I think about it too much and instead of one swift line I stop and go and stop and go... No

I know what you mean, I was the same way... but I realized it was a confidence issue more than skill. When I let go and just do it without worring about it, my lines and swirls got way better.

I'm now working on design and how to just go with it off the cuff. I'm pretty sure some classess are going to help immensely.

It's just practice hun! You have to keep on plugging away at it, and you have to really watch someone that knows what they're doing... watch how they hold the brush, how they twirl it, how they load the paint...

one day, it's just gonna 'click' and you'll be like, 'how did I do those bad ones?!'

My secret is I always pray before that my creativity will flow and I get to share my joy. I guess it refocuses me and blesses my work.

I stare at the water damage on my ceiling. It's amazing how many different things I can see in one oddly shaped blob.
