My Sister... What should I start her with?

Post by Clayton on Sun Mar 14, 2010 2:55 am

Okay, my sister has shown interest in learning how to face paint. So, I was showing her marks and quite honesly, she is a natural. Her teardrops were nearly perfect right off the get go. Same with tiger marks.

So... The problem with her is follow through. I want to help her enough so that if she decides she wants to really do it I am supportive. however, if she flakes out on me I don't want to have invested too much into it.

Anyone have some advice as to what kind of kit I should get her to see if she is REALLY interested? Just paints; I have enough brushes and sponges for 3 painters

Snaz rainbow & sparkle kits available @ Michaels - with a coupon it will be around 15 bucks for both. That's sixteen colors to start with - thats how I started my neighbor. I got some covered water color pallets to put the paints in to make it look more professional.

I started with the rainbow kit that I eventually put splits in while I was deciding which paints & colors to order. Compact & great for parties ; ) A photo of it is on my site with the heading "Beginner Face Painting Classes".

Buy individual colors of the brand YOU use most.
Get her a selection of 8-10 colors....that should be good. Then if she flakes out on you, you aren't stuck with anything that you don't already use.

Thanks Susan, I think I'll go with that.

Modernmagik, I thought about what you said, but she is kind of far away and I don't know when I'll actually get back to see her after this visit.

Wow! Susan, I was just looking at your websites. You do so many things! I was stunned to find you are a grandmother, as I had always assumed that your avatar was a picture of yourself. Smile

I finally found that pic (impressive amount of info and pics on your websites!). It looks like the Snazaroo beginners kit. Yes, it would be good, wouldn't it, as there is a decent selection of colours, but in small amounts, if she doesn't stick with it.

Kat I love you

Maybe it's the Michael's near me, or I'm just not looking right, but I have never seen any snaz there. My nephew is really interested, so I want to get him started with a small kit. I'll have to ask them the next time I go (and bring a coupon!)

I don't think they carry it at all locations--I was gobsmacked when I went in one time and asked if they carried face paints and they said, "No, but you can use tempera!" Having taught arts and crafts at a day camp for a few years I know my paints and would NEVER even think of using tempera on skin. It should be in the Kids' Crafts section.
