It's manapua for me...I miss that and the crack seed stores! It's so expensive to have it sent over that I gave up the vice.

Renee, I was in Oahu about 8 years ago when my ship (U.S.S. Lincoln) stopped for a little rest and replenishment. I was sooooo disappointed with the way the island changed. There seemed to be such hostility from the locals at the time and it was strange because I used to be considered a local. One of the young sailors on my ship was hospitalized within an hour after leaving the ship at Pearl Harbor and that pretty much set the tone for the trip. I wound up severing all ties with a childhood friend on that trip and since then, Hawaii has stirred up bad feelings. I miss what it used to be for me growing up in Kaimuki and walking to Waikiki because we had nothing else to do with our time. Crying or Very sad

Yes, things has change..so sad. Military is not always treated well in many places...I lived here all my life..My grandparents are European...But No matter where you go..there is some sort of prejudice..I have traveled a lot..but I still love Hawaii..I was 3 years old played the ukulele and sang Hawaiian..(could dance the Hula a little).....not one drop of Hawaiian..but it's my home...

These pictures are so fun! I just started recently but this is one I did when I got my Klutz book. Before that I had just done a few really bad snakes, baseballs and spiders at my daughter's 3rd birthday party with crappy Waterworks paints by Mehron and didn't take any pictures. My DD doesn't like to have her picture taken, which is why she's got a long face.

Oh, and I used to live on Oahu, too!

I've really enjoyed seeing all your first pictures...honestly, many are actually REALLY good!!!

My first ever was at a workshop in June...I painted a "beautiful nothings" eye design that looked more like some sort of impressionist painting, lol.

WHOA busy! Then I got a bit discouraged and didn't try again until a month later, when I visited the family in July... on my brother, Spiderman.....

Thanks!

I lived in Kaimuki, on Oahu for a few years after high school. If I could afford to live there I'd move back in a minute! Of course, I live in the San Francisco Bay Area now, not much more affordable, but at least the jobs pay more here!

Yep. Is there a problem with posting that? Sorry if so..I was taking the workshop (more on marketing techniques than actual face painting), and she asked for a volunteer for the eye design.

Oh no... there's nothing wrong. Just... ah, well... surprized me that it was the work of an instructor I guess is how I'll put it.

I agree with Criss... You are more than capable of doing that!

So how was the marketing part of the class?

Thank you so much! I'm glad I didn't break any rules, lol. Well I believe she got into face painting from the marketing end to begin with...that was a quick design she did...honestly, I thought it was AMAZING when she did it then...but since being on this forum I've seen some jaw-droppers.

Shannon, the marketing part was pretty good. I still have the packet (like one of those note packets you use for a slideshow). SOme generic tips, as well as explanations on how to put your stuff on different sites, Adwords, etc.. I was a bit disappointed that I didn't learn much painting there...what it did was actually get me to start trying though...I've wanted to do for awhile, since one of my best friends back where I grew up does it. She is REALLY good (IMO anyway!)
