Hi my name is Lynnie

Post by Lynnie on Wed Apr 07, 2010 9:39 pm

So, I've lurked a long time.
Recently started actually posting.
Thought it might be polite if I introduced myself.

I'm Lynnie.
I call Rochester, NY my home base Smile
I've been doing henna for about 16 years now, 12 of them professionally. From there and through a strange amount of twists and turns I've ended up doing face and body paint and now fantasy/couture make-up. I draw most of my inspiration from nature and couture fashion.

I've also been a professional performer for 17 years, doing sideshow/vaudeville/bellydance/burlesque/fire/interactive improv. I can mostly be found at Ren Faires and themed festivals.

I am of the firm belief that we are entertainers as well as artists and am a huge proponent of thinking waaaaay outside the box. I find the marketing and business set up for both is pretty identical so it's been an easy incorporation for me.

Outside of this obsession, I am an avid globe trotter, writer, reader, adventure sport enthusiast and gardener. I have an absolutely amazing "hubby" (we're getting married in October after 13 years together!) and 15 year old son.

So...there's my nutshell, so nice of you to crack it Wink

Welcome Lynnie. I''ve seen you around on the forum, but it's good to have the intro!
I'm breaking into henna, but not sure on supplies & mixes... Too much controdicting info. The only thing I know for sure is no black henna. Right now I'm using a kit from Michael's(I know... bad choice:-)

Those kits aren't really a bad choice to practice on at all. It's a cheap way to get some of it under your belt.

I did classes with Catherine Cartwright Jones when I started. Then I played with the recipe and tweaked it.

Personally...I think that all the "new info" is just complicated.

I use Moroccan or Yemen henna, and have had good luck with Jamila brand as well.

From my local grocery store-
I use ReaLemon brand lemon juice.
Whole cloves
Normal white sugar
a few drops of Tea Tree Oil

It's so basic, I know, but honestly there is no need to get into all the different oils and glutens and coffees/tea/etc. It works beautifully, keeps well and if it ain't broke Wink

If you want the rest of the recipe, I'll gladly post it up for you. I'm always afraid I just babble. lol

Thanks all!

Wyndy, I have more costume pieces than I can count. I took over the closet in the guest bedroom.
My hub calls it an addiction. I think he might be right Wink lol
