I made a No Sew Tutu!

Post by Psalmbook on Fri Apr 30, 2010 5:05 pm

It's getting really hot & I've been looking for a costume idea that's light weight, a little silly, w/ lots of color & not going to cost me an arm & a leg. I found a tutorial on youtube to make no-sew tutus out of tulle. Mines longer than the micro-mini skirts(no one wants to see me in a micro-mini) on there, but looks awesome!

Thanks for sharing, I've been looking at fairy costumes lately & their not cheap. I can't sew to save myself so this may be the answer.

Psalm, thanks for the idea! I have a Jack Sparrow Pirate themed party to do next Saturday and I was kind of toying around with what I could wear.

I usually dress in basic all black or all white adding color with the boas and hair thingys. I wanted to try and fit the theme.... so I am going to make one in red/black or blue/black not sure which combo would look more (Piratey).... lol a@ my newly made up word. With that my regular black FP shirt and an eye patch I should be good to go.

whoooooo hoooooooo

It only cost about $25 for the amount of tulle(much better than the $100 ones I could have bought online. Etsy.com has some to look for color ideas. I love the pirate idea one! Thanks ChangingFaces!

Red and Black are the piratey colours. Some days at the costume store I wish some one would pick something green or orange, but almost 90% of folks pick red as an accent colour. Blue is probably the next most common choice so really either should be good Smile

Well I just finished my Piratey looking skirt. I ened up doing it in alternating red, blue, and black. I love it!!!!!! OMG!!!! it was so easy. I just rolled it up and cut the strips. In the time it took me and the kids to finish a movie I was done. For the 12 yds of tulle and the piece of elastic it was only 16 and change.

I am going to make one more similar to the colors Psalm did, so that will cover the fairy/princess themed parties.

My daughter loved it so much, she wants to make one for herself. I love that she loves to make things...just like her mommy.

BTW, wear a longer shirt over it & wear it low on your hips or it'll add 100 lbs to your figure lol!

When I 1st put it on my kids(the critics that they are) said it made my butt look bigger(thanks kids).

Ebay is a great source for tulle... I got a whole bolt of purple tulle for $3.50 free shipping... it seems as though they lost money on that deal but my gain!!

Thank you! They are so easy to do. I'm going to make little ones for the little girls to wear at the princess parties. I may work in an option to buy them for the birthday girl...
