Here are the sample swipes, with corresponding split cakes above. I used Snaz black, because that's all I had. I will not do that again.

Wow, these are all great! Kudos to those of you who make your own split cakes! I'm just too lazy to be honest, and everytime I make an effort to actually go and start cutting up a cake... I just can't. I cringe and wimp out. So I have to buy them. Embarassed

I just this week started playing with the Diamond FX Euro Blends. They are the ones that came out before the Arty Cakes, and are MUCH bigger. I don't know why I didn't give it a go before. Anyway, they are square, well rectangle, shaped and about 3 times the size. WAY easier to use!

I love all of the Arty Cakes, and the Diamond FX small cakes, but my new love is the big guys.

Plus, I put all of my cakes into a my palette box with velcrox, and permanently remove the lids. Being square, they fit much better.

Also, they are cheaper in the long run.

LOL I still refuse to cut up my paints....... I purchased some used paints from someone else in the swap shop... and cut those up, just so I could say I made a split cake. Believe me I have more than my share of arty and rainbow cakes. I got inspired to try it after seeing everyone post how fun it was to do so.

I made a few of these as well the last 2 nights. It is kind of therapeutic. I copied a few and some I just made up. I bought a container at Michael's. It has 7 compartments, with flip top lids and each is 1 inch deep and about 2 inches long. Perfect for long swipes with the brush.
I will take some pics after my daughter goes to bed and post.

Thanks for the great ideas.

I kind of feel yucky about cutting up some of my cakes. But, I tried to choose colours that I had "almost" duplicates in. Metallic blue in DFX and Wolfe. Kept the Wolfe whole and cut the other.

It is kinda wierd seeing my cakes with big swuares cut out of them. But adventually they will all matte down anyways.

I still have room for 2 more.
I ;love the size of each compartment. It makes loading the brush really easy. Recognize the last one? hehe

Try just black and white. This one is super! And dark blue, light blue and white. Perfect for most anything!
