Have you split-cake makers thought about looking at http://colourlovers.com for color combo inspiration? It's a site I used to use all the time back in my days of designing myspace or livejournal layouts, and now whenever I need "fresh" combos of color for something I look there. It could work really well for face paints, especially if you have a large range of colors to work with, opening up the creativity instead of just looking for an existing split cake to copy!!
